Magic City Grille owner ‘in the dark’ about future of beloved restaurant

The home of Birmingham’s beloved Magic City Grille may have a new owner, but what the future of the restaurant may be is, at the moment, unclear.

Kupperman Companies of New Orleans recently bought the building, at 2201 to 2205 Third Avenue North, for an undisclosed amount, as part of a move into the Alabama real estate market.

The property, which includes The Magic City Grille, was built in 1923 and has about 10,000 square feet of space. The popular restaurant serves a steamy blend of Southern café dishes.

The property, along with a building and two parking lots off First Avenue North, were acquired in partnership with GBX Group, a Cleveland, Ohio-based historic preservation real estate firm.

Casey Howard with Harbert Realty was the real estate broker of record and will handle leasing for the properties.

CEO Zach Kupperman said he is still “evaluating all options” regarding the properties.

When reached Thursday morning, Magic City Grille co-owner Josephine White said the new owners haven’t contacted them yet, and they intend to keep operating.

“We’re just as in the dark as y’all are,” she said. “We’ve had no contact with them.”

Reviews for "Bake Up Some Wickedly Delicious Treats with the Wilton Witch Finger Baking Pan"

- Sarah B. - 1 star - I was so excited to try this baking pan for Halloween, but it was a huge disappointment. The witch finger shapes came out looking more like sausages than creepy fingers. The detail on the fingers was also very poor, making them look more like blobs than anything else. I followed the instructions carefully, but the fingers still didn't turn out well. I ended up having to use a knife to reshape them after they had cooled down. Not worth the money or the effort.
- Mike W. - 2 stars - I purchased this baking pan to make spooky witch finger cookies for a Halloween party, but unfortunately, the results were far from impressive. The fingers turned out unevenly shaped and did not hold their form well. The pan itself also felt flimsy and cheaply made. I had to spend a lot of time and effort trying to reshape the fingers after baking, which was frustrating and time-consuming. I would not recommend this baking pan for anyone looking to make realistic witch finger treats.
- Lisa R. - 2 stars - I had high hopes for this Wilton witch finger baking pan, but it just didn't live up to expectations. The fingers did not have a clear definition, and it was hard to tell that they were actually supposed to be fingers. The pan also had a strange odor when I first opened it, which made me hesitant to use it. Although the pan was easy to clean, the end result was not worth the effort. I would recommend looking for a different baking pan if you want well-defined witch finger shapes.
