I am extremely disappointed with the New Mexico Lobos sports team mascot. The choice of a lobo, or a Mexican gray wolf, as the mascot is misleading and insensitive. It perpetuates harmful stereotypes about Mexican culture and misrepresents the true value and importance of this endangered species. As a supporter of animal rights and cultural sensitivity, I find it deeply disturbing that an educational institution would choose such an inappropriate mascot.
