Magic Tree House: Twister on Tuesday is the ninth book in the Magic Tree House series written by Mary Pope Osborne. In this adventurous story, readers follow the main characters, Jack and Annie, as they travel back in time to the days of the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Through the power of the magical treehouse, the siblings are transported to the bustling city of Chicago on the eve of the infamous fire. As the children explore the city, they encounter various historical figures such as Patrick and Nellie O'Leary, who are known for their involvement in the start of the fire. Throughout their journey, Jack and Annie learn about the power of helping others and the importance of making responsible choices. The story revolves around the excitement and fear of the approaching natural disaster.
In The Beginning of the End, Shining Armor is captured along with Cadance and Flurry Heart when King Sombra attacks the Crystal Empire, eventually being freed when the Mane Six defeat Sombra with the Elements of Harmony.
Although his stout disposition and military background may lead one to believe he s gruff, Shining Armor is actually an incredibly down-to-earth and friendly stallion who treats commoners as equals, never acting as a superior. He was once the captain of the Canterlot Royal Guard, serving under Princesses Celestia and Luna, the husband of Princess Cadance, the ruling prince of the Crystal Empire, as well as the father of Flurry Heart.
The story revolves around the excitement and fear of the approaching natural disaster. Osborne does a masterful job at blending historical facts with a suspenseful plot, creating an educational and thrilling reading experience for young readers. The vivid description of the fire's aftermath and the bravery of the firefighters create a realistic backdrop for the fictional characters' adventure.
Andrew Francis: Shining Armor
Princess Cadence : They'll never get the chance! Shining Armor's protection spell will keep them from ever even reaching us. Queen Chrysalis : [chuckling] Oh, I doubt that. Isn't that right, dear? Shining Armor : [she makes the brainwashed Shining Armor nod his head absently] Mm-hmm. Queen Chrysalis : [Angry, Princess Cadence starts to run towards Shining Armor, but Chrysalis stops her by stomping her hoof down] Ah, ah, ah. Don't want to go back to the caves, now do you? [she glows her horn green as a threat] Queen Chrysalis : Ever since I took your place, I've been feeding off Shining Armor's love for you. Every moment he grows weaker and so does his spell. Even now my minions are chipping away at it. [cut to above Canterlot, where the Changeling army is definitely hammering away at a weakened shield] Queen Chrysalis : [laughing] He may not be my husband, but he is under my total control now. [Twilight and Cadence gasp] Queen Chrysalis : And I'm sorry to say, unable to perform his duties as captain of the royal guard. Princess Cadence : Not my Shining Armor! Queen Chrysalis : Soon, my changeling army will break through. First, we take Canterlot. And then, all of Equestria! Princess Celestia : No. You won't. You may have made it impossible for Shining Armor to perform his spell, but now that you have so foolishly revealed your true self, [they lock horns] Princess Celestia : I can protect my subjects from you! [Celestia flies up and unleashes a powerful beam from her horn at Chrysalis]
Shining Armor : [while Chrysalis is distracted singing her villain gloating song, Cadence frees Shining Armor from the brainwashing spell that was over him] No! My power is useless now. I don't have the strength to repel them. Princess Cadence : My love will give you strength. Queen Chrysalis : Ahaha. What a lovely but absolutely ridiculous sentiment.
Shining Armor : [getting ready to leave in their carriage] Twilight! None of this would've been possible without you, little sis. Love ya, Twily. Twilight Sparkle : Love you too, B.B.B.F.F. [they hug] Shining Armor : [in the carriage, to Cadence] Ready to go? Princess Cadence : Oh! Almost forgot. [she tosses the official bouquet of flowers out the back, and the three original bridesmaids - Lyra, Twinkleshine, and Minuette - prepare to catch it, only to be pushed aside by Rarity] Rarity : IT'S MINE! [rushes to catch it in her arms] Rarity : Oof! Ahaha. ha. [she sheepishly relents and backs off, holding the flowers with her magic instead]
Twilight Sparkle : [after Chrysalis and the changelings have been defeated, the wedding continues as normal] Seriously, though. I get why the queen of the Changelings wanted to be with you, but how did you get someone as amazing as Cadance to marry you? Shining Armor : I told her she wouldn't just be gaining a husband, she'd be getting a pretty great sister, too. Princess Celestia : [to the gathered crowd] Mares and gentlecolts, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of the real Princess Mi Amore Cadenza. Princess Cadence : [humbly] Princess Cadance is fine. Princess Celestia : [smiling warmly] Hm. The union of Princess Cadance and Shining Armor. The strength of their commitment is clear. The power of their love, undeniable. May we have the rings please? [Spike presents the rings on the pillow, and Celestia levitates each ring onto the couple's horns] Princess Celestia : I now pronounce you mare and colt. [cheering from everyone in the room]
Before the wedding, Twilight tries to tell Shining Armor, but the false Cadance interrupts before they have a chance to talk and takes him into another room. Twilight, peeking through the door, sees Chrysalis, disguised as Cadance casting her spell on Shining Armor, concludes that she's "downright evil," and then runs off. Twilight at last confronts Cadance during the wedding rehearsal, causing "Cadance" to run off in tears. Shining Armor is so upset with Twilight for her actions, after justifying Cadance's behavior, he selfishly tells Twilight she is no longer his Best Mare and suggests that she should not bother coming to the wedding at all, making everyone sided with him, and abandon Twilight when they all should know what he said was wrong to leave Twilight out of the wedding.
