‘The Good Witch’ TV review: Hallmark series familiar to its movie fans, except husband is dead

HALLMARK’S second new series produces its second winner.

Not that it’s any big gamble to take the “Good Witch” stories, which have been a cornerstone of Hallmark’s movie franchise, and turn them into a weekly series.

Catherine Bell, the heart of the franchise, stays on board as title character Cassie Nightingale. She’s as relentlessly nice as ever, with the slight edge of inscrutability that comes from being a witch and nobody else knowing it.

The one main character who won’t be back is Chris Potter, who played Cassie’s husband Jake in the movies.

That concern moved Hallmark to put out a statement saying it wanted Potter, but he was contractually bound to his Canadian TV series “Heartland.”

So it’s no spoiler to say Jake has been killed off and his potential replacement is James Denton.

Cassie, played by Catherine Bell, and her small town of Middleton have experienced great loss with the death of her husband, Chief of Police Jake Russell, in “The Good Witch.”But a possible replacement has arrived.

Denton plays Sam Radford, a doctor who moved from New York to Middletown with his troubled and resentful teenage son.

Since Cassie has a teenage daughter, Gracie (the returning Bailee Madison), dramatic possibilities have clearly expanded.

Because even Hallmark movies need an adversary, which is much mildler than a “villain,” Catherine Disher has returned as Martha Tinsdale, Middletown’s comically self-absorbed mayor.

Saturday’s premiere sets all the stages. Sam’s a bit impulsive, Cassie’s understanding, we all get common-sense life lessons.

Like the network’s first original series, “Cedar Cove,” “Good Witch” doesn’t stray a micrometer from the Hallmark brand. You don’t need witch’s powers to figure out what’s going to work.

Good witch jake

A mysterious woman, Cassie Nightingale, comes to town, setting small-town tongues wagging when she inhabits the local haunted mansion, and stirring up more than potions by opening a curio shop, “Bell, Book, and Candle.” The question on everyone’s lips… is she truly a witch, or just a bewitchingly cunning woman? A deluge of mean-spirited complaints circulates, especially from the mayor’s mean wife and her band of busybodies. Police chief Jake and his children are charmed by her ways, but it may take a little enchantment to win over her more ardent opponents. There’s magic in the air – and maybe romance, too – as Jake struggles to sort things out in this delightful family comedy starring Catherine Bell.

Reviews for "Elf Matte Magic Mist and Set: The Ingredients That Make It a Game-Changer"

1. Sara - 2/5 stars - I recently tried the Elf Matte Magic Mist and Set Ingredients and was really disappointed with the results. Despite its claims to keep my makeup in place all day, I found that it didn't actually make a noticeable difference. Additionally, I have dry skin and found that this mist made my skin feel even drier and tight after application. Overall, it didn't live up to my expectations and I won't be repurchasing it.
2. Mike - 3/5 stars - I've heard so many great things about the Elf Matte Magic Mist and Set Ingredients, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me. The mist itself is quite heavy and it takes a while for it to dry down, which I found inconvenient. Moreover, I didn't notice any significant improvement in the longevity of my makeup. While it may work for some people, it just didn't deliver the expected results for me.
3. Emily - 1/5 stars - I was really excited to try the Elf Matte Magic Mist and Set Ingredients based on the positive reviews, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The mist had an unpleasant smell and made my sensitive skin break out in a rash. Not only did it irritate my skin, but I also didn't notice any difference in the longevity or matte finish of my makeup. I would not recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin.
