Report: Heat mascot sent to ER after bit with Conor McGregor

The old saying goes that it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

That's exactly what happened to the man who plays Miami Heat mascot Burnie, as he had to go to a local emergency room Friday night after twice getting punched by UFC star Conor McGregor during an on-court bit during Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Miami, according to a report.

The man who plays Burnie, according to The Athletic, received pain medication, was sent home and is doing well.

"We won't reveal who that is, but yeah, he can take a punch and get back up," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters on Sunday about the man who portrays the team's mascot. "He's not going to miss any time."

As part of the skit, Burnie, who was dressed in a fighter's robe and large gloves, moved toward McGregor at midcourt in a fighting stance. McGregor, who was promoting a pain-relief spray, floored Burnie with a left hook and then landed a straight punch to the face of the mascot's headgear as Burnie was lying face-up on the floor.

McGregor, the first fighter in UFC history to hold simultaneous championships in two different weight classes, is serving as a coach in Season 31 of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality television show.

McGregor has not competed since breaking his left leg in a fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

The Heat, who lost 108-95 on Friday, will attempt to avoid getting knocked out by the Denver Nuggets, who have a 3-1 lead and can clinch the NBA championship in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series on Monday night (8:30 ET, ABC).

Reviews for "Mascot Tries to Fool McGregor, Pays the Price in Brutal Fashion"

1. John - 2 stars:
I was deeply disappointed by the "Xonor ncgregor beats up mascot" video. As a long-time fan of Xonor ncgregor's work, I expected much more from this. The concept of seeing a famous athlete beat up a mascot for entertainment purposes is not only disrespectful but also sends the wrong message to impressionable audiences. The video lacked creativity and substance, relying solely on shock value to garner attention. It left me questioning the moral compass of both Xonor ncgregor and the creators of this tasteless content.
2. Sarah - 1 star:
I couldn't even finish watching the "Xonor ncgregor beats up mascot" video. It was a complete waste of time and utterly repulsive. Encouraging violence, especially towards defenseless mascots, is not entertainment in my book. Additionally, the video was poorly made, with shaky camera movements and blurry shots that made it difficult to follow the action. I expected better from Xonor ncgregor and his team, but sadly, this video only left a sour taste in my mouth.
3. Michael - 2 stars:
"Xonor ncgregor beats up mascot" was a regrettable video to say the least. I've always admired Xonor ncgregor's skills and charisma, but this felt like a desperate attempt to stay relevant. The whole premise of the video was unnecessary and seemed like a cheap publicity stunt. Xonor ncgregor's talents are better showcased in the realm of combat sports, and this video did nothing but tarnish his image. I hope he reconsiders future collaborations that go against his true abilities and character.
4. Emily - 2.5 stars:
I was not impressed by "Xonor ncgregor beats up mascot." While I understand that this video was intended to be comedic, it missed the mark for me. The violence towards the mascot felt excessive and uncomfortable to watch. The jokes were lackluster and didn't quite land, leading to many cringe-worthy moments. Overall, I believe there are much better ways for Xonor ncgregor to showcase his talent and entertain his audience. This video was a disappointment in terms of quality and content.
