But from his words, Sauron misunderstood that the land of the hobbits who stole the Ring was on the banks of the Gladden River, whence Gollum originally came from. [22] Sauron sent the Nine, under the leadership of the Witch-king, invisible and uncloaked, to search for the Ring after the assault of Osgiliath.
