Conor McGregor explains punch which sent basketball mascot to hospital

Conor McGregor has insisted he and the Miami Heat mascot he sent to hospital last week were simply performing a stunt and that all is well.

The Irishman was in Miami on holiday when he was spotted courtside at the NBA finals, even getting himself on the court during a break in play. And he even found himself in a fun segment where he 'knocked out' the mascot Burnie and threw an extra shot on the ground to finish him off after a playful ;fight.

However, all was not necessarily well, with sources in the league telling The Athletic the man inside the costume caught the punch a little too well, and was really hurt by the incident. Reports claimed he was sent to hospital and given pain medication by doctors before being sent home.

McGregor claims the pair have spoken since and that the mascot is fine, telling TMZ during a visit to New York yesterday: "The mascot is good. It was a skit, and all is well. I spent a lot of time with him afterward, we talked it out, everything is great. It was all part of the show!"

The legendary UFC fighter, who is currently preparing for his octagon return later this year, stayed at the Kaseya Center for the entirety of the Denver Nuggets’ 108-95 win over the Heat. He was promoting his Tidl spray within the skit, using it to help the mascot get better after the stunt.

McGregor is back in America after a brief stint at home to promote Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron and a stop in Cannes for the annual film festival. He is expected to face Chandler on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but his status with the US Anti-Doping Agency is unknown, as is the weight class for the bout.

McGregor, however, punched the mascot a little too hard (and more than once) — way past the point of TIDL being able to do anything.

1. John Smith - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with this illustration. The Wiccan and Hulkling characters looked nothing like how they are portrayed in the comics. The artist took too many creative liberties and it ended up looking very cartoonish. The colors were also way too bright and the composition was messy. Overall, I was not satisfied with this fan illustration.
2. Sarah Thompson - 2 stars - As a fan of Wiccan and Hulkling, I was really excited to see an artist's take on this pairing. However, this illustration fell far below my expectations. The proportions were off, making both characters look extremely odd. Additionally, the facial expressions lacked any emotion or depth, making them seem lifeless. The background was also very plain and didn't add anything to the overall composition. Overall, this fan illustration did not do justice to these beloved characters.
3. Michael Johnson - 1 star - I cannot fathom how anyone could appreciate this fan illustration. The artist completely butchered both Wiccan and Hulkling's appearance, making them unrecognizable. The linework was sloppy and the coloring was amateurish at best. It's a shame to see such a poor representation of these characters. I would not recommend this illustration to any fans of Wiccan and Hulkling.
4. Emily Davis - 2 stars - This fan illustration simply did not capture the essence of Wiccan and Hulkling. Both characters looked stiff and awkward, lacking the dynamic energy that is usually associated with them. The coloring was also too vibrant for my taste, making the illustration seem cartoonish rather than professional. Overall, I was not impressed with this piece and would not consider it a fitting representation of Wiccan and Hulkling.
