Most of my reviews come from movies that are sent my way for review. In fact, I would say a solid 90% of my reviews are movies sent to me for review. However, there is that 10% that I review just because I’m genuinely curious about a film. I can no longer watch a movie without reviewing it. I have to talk about the movie I just watched.
A few weeks ago I was walking through Walmart when I saw the DVD release of The Curse of Hobbes House. I had remembered the press release for this one sometime back and decided to snag it for the price. After watching a few films from Dustin Ferguson I decided that now was the perfect time to give this one a spin.
**Spoiler Alert** The film follows a down on her luck young woman living in her car when she receives a call that a distant relative has passed away leaving behind the house and property which she left to her. However, her posh sister is also an heir to the property. Hoping to cash in on the property she visits but soon finds herself face to face with an ancient evil when the undead start attacking the home in search of flesh. **Spoiler Alert**
I was very curious about this one because the artwork and trailer really got my hopes up but just a few minutes into it I knew it was a snoozer. I hate writing negative reviews because movies are the product of some one’s hard work but The Curse of Hobbes House was extremely boring and difficult to finish.
The acting in this one is pretty solid. The cast is fully dedicated to their roles but the characters are painfully bland and one dimensional. The characters are cliched and at times they are just filling up the scene instead of carrying the story.
The story for this one is nothing we haven’t seen before. The film used a story we have seen a million times by this point since Night of the Living Dead with a little different origin story. Here we follow a group of people fight off the undead in a farm house. Literally the same story as NotLD. However, the origins tracing back to a king and his lords was somewhat pretty entertaining but is forgotten after the opening animated sequence.
Finally, this is not a gory zombie flick that most genre fans are looking for. We get some make-up effects and a few splashes of blood here and there but nothing that will stand out. Overall, The Curse of Hobbes House tries to do what Roger Conner’s Rebirth could. It’s not a fun or entertaining retelling of the Romero classic. Instead, if borrows heavily from the story without contributing. Skip it.

The Curse Of Hobbes House is a horror film with a classic story attached to it. Which story? That of the rising undead. We see this a lot in the horror movie genre, but The Curse Of Hobbes House adds some twists and turns that make it almost feel like something completely new. An interesting take on the genre, and a movie that had me intrigued from beginning to end, this is a must watch for zombie fans.
As this film starts off we feel bad for Jane Dormant, played by Mhairi Calvey. She has lost her job, been evicted, and is living in her car when she learns that her Aunt has passed away. Jane travels to Hobbes House, a spooky mansion in the middle of nowhere (because of course it is) for the reading of the will.
Things get interesting there when she comes face to face with her half-sister, Jennifer, played by Makenna Guyler. It is immediately obvious that these two do not get along. However, it seems like a lot more than sibling rivalry. Later on, the full story is revealed, but I am not going to spoil it for you.
With them is the groundskeeper, Naser. Then a massive storm hits, cutting the house off from any outside help. As if things couldn’t get any worse, the dead start to rise, and they aren’t happy. Turns out they are called guardians, and they remain bound to the property and kill any human who is on it.
The inclusion of chamomile helps to calm and soothe the skin, while coconut oil provides hydration and moisture. Aloe vera adds an extra level of nourishment and soothes any irritation or redness. Another highlight of this cleanser is its natural and clean formula.
The Undead Rising Is Nothing New But….
Sounds sort of familiar, right? The dead rise, stormy weather, no way to contact outside help… But even though the pieces of a classic zombie tale are in The Curse Of Hobbes House, it is so much more than that. The look of the zombies themselves is a bit different. They have spooky glowing eyes, which seems like an easy enough addition to the undead creatures. Trust me when I say this works, and it ups the creepy factor a few notches.
One of my favorite parts about this movie is we get the backstory on these zombies. Usually if there is an explanation in a film, it is brief. But this origin story for the guardians feels original and intriguing. Again, keeping my mouth shut on this one so you can enjoy the film with fresh eyes, but be ready for it!

I was really disappointed with the Truthful Beauty Magic Gel to Milk Cleanser. First of all, the texture was so strange and it didn't glide smoothly on my skin at all. It felt sticky and difficult to spread. Secondly, it didn't effectively remove my makeup. I had to use a separate makeup remover to get rid of my mascara and foundation, which defeated the purpose of using a cleanser like this. Overall, I was not impressed and I don't think I'll be repurchasing this product.
