Barrows has crafted a serviceable time-travel fantasy with the right amount of moving back and forth Miri s own glasses are her ticket back to the 21st century and reflection on the consequences of changing the past. The gags include effectively placed callbacks to seemingly incidental events the stress lizard brought in on testing day is particularly funny and a lampoon of after-school-special style problem books.

Throughout the book, Arthur embarks on a journey to learn more about his powers and the hidden world of magic. Along the way, he encounters various creatures and beings, both friend and foe, who help him navigate the magical realm.

The family has just moved to an old farmhouse in a new town, where the only good thing seems to be Miri's ten-sided attic bedroom. 1. Samantha - 2/5 stars - I was really looking forward to reading "The Magic Half" based on all the positive reviews, but it ended up being a huge disappointment for me. Overall, I found the book to be forgettable and not worth the hype.
