The Witchcraft Holidays Calendar for 2023 is an essential guide for witches and practitioners of the craft to plan and prepare for the upcoming year's magical celebrations. This calendar provides a comprehensive overview of the significant dates and events in the pagan and witchcraft traditions. The calendar begins with Imbolc on February 2nd, which marks the midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Imbolc is a celebration of the returning light and the awakening of nature, making it an ideal time for purification rituals and initiations into new beginnings. Next on the calendar is Ostara, occurring on March 20th, which corresponds with the vernal equinox. As the days become longer and the earth regains its fertility, witches celebrate this time of balance and renewal with rituals focused on growth, rebirth, and fertility.

Iconic Witch Shop To Close In Salem, Mass.

Laurie Cabot opened the town's first Witch shop in 1970 and helped to make Salem a tourist destination. A few years later she was named the "Official Witch of Salem" by then Governor Michael Dukakis. While her brick-and-mortar store is closing, her online store will still offer broomsticks, cauldrons and more.

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

And today's last word in business is: The spell is broken.

The town of Salem, Massachusetts, is known for its violent history of the Salem witch trials of the 17th century. But more than 40 years ago, an advocate and teacher of witchcraft helped to make it a tourist destination.

Laurie Cabot opened the town's first witch shop in 1970. A few years later, she was named the official witch of Salem by then Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis. Cabot's store was reborn under several names and locations over the years, but she has announced on her website that today will be the last day of business for the final incarnation of her brick-and-mortar witch store. Her online store will still be around, offering broomsticks, cauldrons, chalices and more.

And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.

This Salem Home Store Is Like West Elm for Witches

Erica Feldmann is the Head Witch In Charge at the coolest with shop in Salem.

It's busy season in Salem, Massachusetts, and Erica Feldman has a lot of spell kit orders to fill. Erica is the HWIC—Head Witch in Charge, of course—at HausWitch, a home and lifestyle store that has become a bucket list spot for Salem-goers since its opening in 2015. At her store, you'll find all sorts of enchanting gifts, like candles, crystals, wall art, pillows, blankets, and, of course, magical cleaning products and spell kits.

House Beautiful

If you're wondering, no, you do not have to be a witch to shop at the store or even use a spell kit. "I believe in the power of energy and being able to harness it to set intentions and, you know, change your life," Erica explains. "My personal favorite would be a manifesting spell, because it helps you get clarity around what you want to bring into your life and it helps you do that," she says. Erica's line of spell kits help you manifest positive energy into your home—or help you find a home in the first place, if that's your intention.

House Beautiful

This year alone Erica will sell hundreds of spell kits, with customers traveling around the world to visit the store—just recently someone traveled all the way from Dubai to get a glimpse at HausWitch. See the shop in the video above and plan your trip to Salem ASAP.

As the days become longer and the earth regains its fertility, witches celebrate this time of balance and renewal with rituals focused on growth, rebirth, and fertility. Beltane, celebrated on May 1st, marks the peak of spring and the arrival of summer. It is a joyous occasion where witches honor the union of the Goddess and God, often through rituals involving maypoles and bonfires.

Pantyhose tales

Beltane is known for its emphasis on passion, love, and the harmonious balance of masculine and feminine energies. Midsummer, also known as Litha, falls on June 21st and is celebrated on the summer solstice. At this time, the sun reaches its peak and provides maximum energy for magical and spiritual workings. Witches gather to celebrate the height of the sun's power and connect with the fiery energy of nature. Lammas, taking place on August 1st, is a festival of gratitude and abundance. It marks the first harvest and the beginning of the harvest season. Witches give thanks for the bountiful gifts of the earth and engage in rituals focused on gratitude, prosperity, and harvesting their intentions. Mabon, occurring on September 21st, is the autumnal equinox and a time of balance between light and darkness. It is a time to reflect on the harvest, honor the changing seasons, and prepare for the upcoming winter. Witches typically perform rituals focused on balance, transformation, and letting go of what no longer serves them. Samhain, the most widely known witchcraft holiday, falls on October 31st and is also known as Halloween. This is a time when the veil between the physical and spiritual realms is thin, making it a perfect occasion to honor and communicate with ancestors, perform divination, and reflect on life and death. Lastly, Yule, celebrated on December 21st, marks the winter solstice and the longest night of the year. Witches gather to welcome the return of the sun and celebrate the rebirth of light in their lives. Yule is a time for renewal, introspection, and setting intentions for the coming year. This Witchcraft Holidays Calendar for 2023 serves as a valuable resource for witches to plan their magical practices and honor the various cycles of nature throughout the year. It ensures that practitioners can align themselves with the rhythms of the universe and harness the energy of these significant dates for spiritual growth, empowerment, and connection with the divine..
