The Orlando Magic have a lot to look forward to in the 2024 season.
It feels like this offseason can not end quickly enough after the team, once healthy, made serious strides and knocked on the door of making the postseason.
The arrival of Paolo Banchero has indeed changed everything for the Magic. He wrapped up a Rookie of the Year season and changed the team’s complete outlook in the process.
A 29-28 finish to the season is not something to celebrate with a ticker tape parade. But for a franchise starving for a star and the concrete sign of some long-term potential, it symbolized the start of something special.
Or potentially something special. Nothing in this league is guaranteed and that is the most important lesson of all. Orlando will have to build its defense back up, improve it and find some offense in the process.

The first step then of this process now that the roster is set and training camp sits a month and a half away is the schedule. The 82-game (maybe 83?) journey begins with a single step. And each game is a chapter in this story that will hopefully end with some extra basketball in late May.

This season introduces a new wrinkle to that with the inaugural In-Season Tournament in November and a chance to get some pressure game practice before the run to the postseason in February and March.
The Magic’s schedule is not easy, including an early season West Coast trip and 15 back-to-backs. However, the Magic did get one national TV game for their trouble (you will have to wait for February although Chet Holmgren’s health may not matter this time around).
It is going to be a fun journey. Let’s begin by laying out the path.
Orlando Magic Announce their 2023-24 Preseason Schedule
The Orlando Magic’s have announced their highly anticipated 2023-24 preseason schedule. The Magic will kick off their preseason with an away game against New Orleans on Tuesday, October 10. This exciting matchup will set the stage for an action-packed season ahead.
After their game in New Orleans, the Magic will travel to Cleveland for another thrilling preseason showdown on Thursday, October 12. However, the real excitement begins when Orlando returns to their home turf, the Amway Center, on Tuesday, October 17. The Magic will host their first preseason game against New Orleans, and tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
The preseason concludes on Friday, October 20, with a final home game against Brazilian team Flamengo. Tip-off is once again at 7 p.m. This matchup will mark Flamengo’s third visit to the Amway Center, with their previous matchups taking place in 2014 and 2018. Additionally, the Magic and Flamengo have faced each other four times during the preseason, including a memorable game in 2015 when Orlando traveled to Brazil as part of the NBA Global Games Rio.

Orlando Magic Release 2023-2024 Schedule
The Orlando Magic schedule for the 2023-2024 was released today at 3 p.m. while Brandon and I were on the show. You can listen to our live reaction and breakdown here:
Now that I've had time to digest the schedule, here are some of my biggest takeaways.
1) Season Debut at Home is HUGE.
This one is obvious. The Magic open up the season with a home game at the Amway Center against the Houston Rockets on Oct. 25th. Every team wants to kick off their season in front of their home crowd, but it's especially true for this Orlando Magic team. The team recorded record numbers last season with three all-time top-5 single game attendances set last season alone. Playing Houston is also a huge plus, as the Rockets are a very new team with a new head coach (Ime Udoka), and new players (Fred VanVleet & Dillon Brooks). This is a great time to play a team who will most likely spend the first quarter of the season finding their groove.
2) Early West Coast Trip
After one game in front of the home crowd, the Magic hit the road for a 4-game west coast trip for games 2-5 of the regular season. Obviously the west coast road trip is always a difficult obstacle every team must go through, so I actually think the timing of this for the Magic is great. It is very easy to lack focus when you are away from home and playing four games in nine days on the west coast. The advantage of getting this WC trip out of the way early, is the players will be locked in due to the buzz of a fresh season. Split the road trip 2-2, and I could see the Magic coming back to Orlando with a 3-2 record.
3) Raw Deal on Televised Games Numbers
The Magic, after not receiving any nationally televised games last season, only got the nod for one game on TNT on Feb. 13 vs the OKC Thunder. The Magic do see an increase in NBA TV games from two last season to four this season, but it's absurd compared to the rest of the league. 24 nationally televised games for the Miami Heat is insane. Yes, they represented the East in the NBA Finals. However, they were the epitome of why you don't need to win the most games in the regular season to compete for the NBA Finals. Remember, the Heat finished 44-38 on the season - good for the 8th seed and a play-in birth. The Atlanta Hawks have triple the amount of nationally televised games. Atlanta was one of the more disorganized organizations across the league. The Magic will remain one of the most intriguing teams in the league, and will shine under the radar.

Additionally, the design and colors were not as vibrant as they appeared online. Overall, I was disappointed with the quality and appearance of this squishmallow.
2. James - 1/5 - I have to say I was extremely disappointed with the Orchid witchy kitty squishmallow. The stitching was poorly done, and within a few days, it started to unravel. The tummy of the squishmallow was also overstuffed, making it lumpy and uncomfortable to hold. I would not recommend this product to anyone and advise against purchasing it.
3. Sarah - 2/5 - I was excited to receive the Orchid witchy kitty squishmallow, but my excitement quickly turned into disappointment. The product had a peculiar smell that didn't go away even after washing it multiple times. The stuffing also seemed unevenly distributed, making it lopsided and not as huggable as other squishmallows I own. Overall, I was not satisfied with this purchase and regretted spending my money on it.
4. David - 3/5 - The Orchid witchy kitty squishmallow was not terrible, but it didn't meet my expectations either. The material used was a little stiff and didn't provide the same softness as other squishmallows. The design was okay, but it didn't wow me like I thought it would. While it wasn't the worst purchase, I wouldn't buy it again or recommend it to others.
5. Jessica - 2/5 - I was really looking forward to getting the Orchid witchy kitty squishmallow, but unfortunately, it fell short for me. The colors were not as vibrant as they appeared online and the stitching seemed flimsy. It also didn't have that signature squishiness that I love about squishmallows. Overall, I would say it was just average and not worth the price.
