The sound of a witch's laughter is distinctive and instantly recognizable, often portrayed as high-pitched, shrill, and full of wicked delight. It is a sound that sends shivers down your spine and makes you question the reality around you. The image of a witch laughing is deeply ingrained in popular culture, commonly depicted in movies, books, and folklore. Chaos Witch addresses a relatively new term among young witches, Chaos Witchcraft. It explores how methods like sigil magick and free belief relate to traditional paths of Witchcraft, to the Ritual Magick influences that gave rise to Chaos Magick, and to the practices of Chaos Magick itself and how they've become relevant to modern witches today. Jaq D. Hawkins was the first Chaos Magician to make information about Chaos Magick available to the general public in her book, Understanding Chaos Magic (now incorporated into The Chaonomicon.) In recognising how the results oriented practices of Chaos Magick has transcended beyond the formal schools of Magick and taken it into the hands-on methods of folk witchcraft, she bridges the perceived divide between these differing paths. With an overview of the history of pre-Wiccan witchcraft, Ritual (Ceremonial) Magick and the basic concepts of Chaos Magick, Chaos Witch encourages a personal approach to magic that can draw from known methods of any path as well as imagination, giving the Chaos Witch the tools to create her own spells and methods of divination into a unique and individual practice.

7 signs of a Chaos Witch

Can you be a Chaos Witch? Chaos witches are powerful magicians who draw their power from the element of chaos. They have a unique ability to manipulate and control reality through magic, often in unpredictable ways.

What (or better Who) is Chaos?

In Greek mythology, Chaos is the personification of the primordial void from which all else was born. He is a representation of complete disorder and confusion and is often considered to be the first being or entity that existed in the universe before any other gods or creatures. In some stories he is also said to have created Erebus, which would become the father/mother of famous gods before the Age of Men.

Chaos Witch and Witchcraft

Chaos witchcraft is a form of spiritual practice that seeks to use the power of chaos and spontaneity to manifest desired outcomes. It draws on influences from various belief systems, including wicca, and uses techniques such as divination, spell-casting, energy manipulation and visualization. Chaos witches often focus on using their intuition during rituals, allowing them to work with unpredictable energies in order to bring about change in their lives. Check here the signs of a Natural Born Witch.

Signs of a Chaos Witch

If you think you may be a chaos witch, here are seven signs that may indicate this is true:

1. Adrenaline freak Witches – Extreme Magical Practices

Similar to adrenaline freaks – you feel an intense connection to the chaotic elements of nature. Hence you are drawn to most powerful elements of Witchcraft like storms, eclipses, etc. As you can recall – eclipse magic is probably the most powerful form of Witchcraft. Not for the faint-hearted. Extreme magical elements resonate with you on a deeper level than most people.

2. Breaking the old – crafting the New

You have an affinity for breaking down old structures and rebuilding them in new and interesting ways – whether those structures are physical objects or concepts like rules or regulations.

3. Unexpected Results in spells

Your magical spells seem to always take unexpected turns; even when following recipes closely your results rarely turn out as expected! This is probably something you noticed fro childhood.

4. Openminded

You tend to be more open-minded than others when it comes to possibilities outside of what is considered “normal” by society at large – including realms of chaos magic that other might find strange or frightening!

5. Change for you is not scary

You view change as something exciting rather than something scary; instead of resisting shifts in yourself or your environment you embrace them with enthusiasm (or at least curiosity).

6. Attract attention

Chaos witches tend to attract both positive and negative attention due their tendency towards bending boundaries and pushing against norms; people either love them or hate them!

7 . Seeking knowledge

Finally, chaos witches constantly seek knowledge – especially knowledge which helps them further understand how they can utilize their powers for greater good (or evil!) purposes.

What is a "chaos witch"?

A Chaos Witch, also sometimes called a Chaote, is someone who practices Chaos Magick.

Chaos Magick is slightly more difficult to define. It’s a paradigm in which the central belief is that belief is merely a tool of magick rather than the end itself. Many of its beliefs have diffused into the magick/witchcraft community. The most obvious one I can think of is the more recent belief that your tools don’t make or break your witchcraft/magick and that it’s largely your intent. Another main point in Chaos Magick is the use of Gnosis which is an altered state of consciousness that is similar to Hyperfocus from ADHD though it’s purposefully induced and controlled by various methods depending on the practitioner.

This website has a decent explanation for it and even breaks it down into math for those who like that kind of thing

I’d advise reading some of Peter Carroll’s works as he’s a rather prominent Chaote though I believe he has long since retired. Many of his works can be found here

Another prominent writer of Chaos Magick is @bluefluke and Chapter’s 1-3 of his Psychonaught Field Manuel can be downloaded here

One warning about BlueFluke is that he does talk about using Kabbalah which considering the spelling I can only assume he is talking about Jewish Kabbalah which I’d advise you not use as it’s Jewish Mysticism and therefore part of a semi-closed practice which you would need to be initiated into. However Hermetic Qabalah is open and could probably be easily used in a similar manner though it would take some extra study if you want to take that route. There are other methods he goes into instead of Kabbalah so it’s not entirely necessary to worry about it.

Lastly (I promise because this is getting long) two of the most well known things that Chaos Magick has spawned are Sigils and Servitors.

Their laughter is seen as a manifestation of their wickedness, a way to taunt and torment those who cross their paths. The cackling laughter of a witch is not just an auditory experience; it creates a vivid mental image as well. We imagine an old hag with contorted features, bony fingers, and a toothless grin, her eyes gleaming with malevolence.

The laughter echoes in our minds, heightening our fear and alerting us to the presence of something supernatural. However, the laughing witch is not only a source of fear and apprehension. In some instances, it can also be seen as a symbol of empowerment. The laughter represents a defiance of societal norms and expectations. It is a way for the witch to reclaim her agency and embrace her own power, finding joy and liberation in her otherness. The laughing witch cackling serves as a reminder of the enduring allure and fascination with the supernatural. It taps into our primal fears and taps into our collective imagination. Whether it invokes terror or admiration, the laughing witch's cackle is undeniably captivating and unforgettable..
