Three women and a six-year-old boy were buried in the stable of their home. The boy died, but the women lived off the goats and chickens that had been buried with them until they were dug out 37 days later, "unable to walk, and so wasted that they appeared like shadows", according to a contemporary account. The interview one of the women gave afterwards is often cited as the first documentary evidence of post-traumatic stress disorder.
