Born on February 26, 1940, in Aguada, a municipality on the west coast of Puerto Rico, Mario Pabón has dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of the Puerto Rican people. Pabón's career in politics began during his time as a student at the University of Puerto Rico, where he became involved in the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP). He quickly rose through the ranks of the party and became a prominent member and leader. Pabón's political work focused on the fight for Puerto Rico's independence from the United States.
