Jadis fears this prophecy and will go to great lengths to stop it from happening, including capturing and killing Aslan, the lion who serves as the true king of Narnia. Despite her powerful rule, the White Witch is ultimately defeated by the four Pevensie children and the return of Aslan. Aslan sacrifices himself to save one of the children, Susan, by allowing Jadis to kill him on the Stone Table. However, because of an ancient magic, Aslan is resurrected and goes on to defeat the White Witch's forces. The defeat of the White Witch symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the restoration of Narnia. With the White Witch gone, the curse of eternal winter is lifted, and spring returns to Narnia.
