Just Add Magic is about three best friends, Kelly, Darbie, and Hannah, around age 11 who find a mysterious cookbook in the attic that belonged to Kelly s grandmother. The way to do that seems to come down to a choice between studying and doing well in school or excelling in an extracurricular activity like dancing.

Based on the popular children’s book series by Cindy Callaghan , Just Add Magic follows 3 friends and related characters in their adventures with a vintage magical recipe book. Think Charmed, (the original), meets Halloweentown meets Sherlock and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Also, if you like to cook, you’ll find plenty of eye candy and inspiration for culinary delights. It may also inspire kids to learn to cook.

Like most shows, the first season can be a tad rough. Some of the performances during Season 1 were a little artificial with a touch of too much “Disney”. I’m a big Disney fan, so don’t take that the wrong way. But some of Disney’s newer kids’ shows severely underestimate the intelligence of the audience, which can be frustrating. This is what I mean by “too much Disney”.

Rest assured, these instances of “cheese” are few and far between and are pretty much gone after a half dozen of the 24-minute episodes.

Just Add Magic boasts an interesting cast of characters with intriguing stories that will keep you guessing. Each season has a full story arc that continues from one episode to the next; with the full 3 season run having its own over-arching story.

Definitely worth watching, my rating for Just Add Magic is…

Reviews for "Why "Just Add Magic" is Still Relevant for Teens and Tweens in the Age of Streaming"

- Sarah - ★☆☆☆☆
I found "Just Add Magic" to be completely inappropriate for the age recommendation. The show is filled with complicated recipes and spells that are too difficult for younger kids to understand. Additionally, the themes and storylines are quite mature and may not be suitable for children under the recommended age. I was disappointed with the lack of appropriate content and wouldn't recommend it for kids.

While "Just Add Magic" may be popular among its intended age group, I believe the age recommendation is too high. The show deals with complex issues and the characters often find themselves in dangerous situations. Younger children may struggle to understand and relate to the storylines, which can be confusing and overwhelming. I would suggest reconsidering the age recommendation for this show.
- Emily - ★★☆☆☆
I had high hopes for "Just Add Magic," but I found it to be too dark and intense for the recommended age group. The show tackles topics like betrayal, secrets, and consequences in a way that may be too heavy for younger children. The magical elements can also be quite scary, especially for kids who are more sensitive. I believe the age recommendation should be revised to ensure a more suitable viewing experience for children.
