At this point, you may be wondering “Did I dislike Season of the Witch because I imagined it being a different, hypothetically better, movie?” I’d be lying if I unequivocally said “Yes” or “No.” On one hand, expectations almost always have some kind of impact. On the other hand, even when I realized the movie wasn’t what I was expecting, I was with it for a long enough that I was ready for where it would take me. I gave it every chance imaginable. I wanted to love it, I just didn’t. Even if it was about three murderous kids possessed by masks, there’s certainly a chance I wouldn’t have liked it then either.

You know, in the highly believable scene where he gets an important member of the TV network on the telephone and succeeds in them shutting down a massive broadcast because they should trust him, followed by kids who stopped at a gas station watching TV. In the near 40 years since there were a few things I did know about the movie one, it didn t have Michael; two, despite that, some fans consider it the best in the Halloween franchise ; and three, it featured kids in Halloween masks.

Night of the Witch

It's 1989 and there's a horrid legend. A tale of a Maddy Martha the evil witch who comes out on Hallows Eve to kill those who party and sin. Throwing caution and lore against the wind, a group of young adults decide to throw a Halloween bash. One by one they are killed by a masked murderer until only a few remain. Is the slayer of teens really the witch of legend or a psycho with an agenda? One thing is for sure. this is the Night of the Witch!

Director Statement

Night of the Witch is a successfully crowdfunded short horror/ comedy flick filled to the brim with 80's radness!

A few years ago we launched a Indiegogo campaign to fund a feature length film for Night of the Witch. We didn't reach our goal, but we did raise enough to make a killer short film.

We are all super proud of what we made and hope audiences enjoy it in the festival circuit!

This is where I’m really going to explore both because it’s the crux of the whole movie and also because, well, it’s incredibly dumb. Some of the dumb things are covered in the film though. For example, it’s mentioned that the owner of Silver Shamrock, Mr. Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy), is one of the richest men in the world. So submarining his company, life, and town by killing all the kids in the world for a purpose greater than money sort of makes sense. I also get that it’s the early 1980s, movies aren’t readily accessible, so asking kids to watch a popular movie on TV on Halloween night and wait for the “big giveaway” after isn’t a stretch either. I’m also totally fine with the super random idea that Silver Shamrock stole a magical rock from Stonehenge to help with these rituals. That’s idiotic, but so is the movie.

2. John - 1/5 stars - "I couldn't even finish reading 'Jikmy page odcult'. The writing style was extremely convoluted, and I felt like the author was trying too hard to be mysterious. The dialogue was unrealistic and the plot was all over the place. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but it just wasn't for me."
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars - "I found 'Jikmy page odcult' to be a confusing and disjointed read. The narrative jumped between different timelines and perspectives without clear transitions, making it hard to keep track of what was happening. The characters also lacked depth and I had a hard time connecting with any of them. Overall, I found this book to be a frustrating and unsatisfying reading experience."
4. Tom - 1/5 stars - "I regret wasting my time on 'Jikmy page odcult'. The plot was nonsensical and full of plot holes, and the writing style was pretentious. The author seemed more focused on trying to be literary than on creating an engaging story. I struggled to care about any of the characters and ultimately felt no connection to the book. I don't recommend it."
