It’s the first of two Wes Anderson movies we’ll be getting in 2023 (the other one is an adaptation of a Roald Dahl anthology named The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, coming in what we assume is the second half of the year). This ensemble comedy about a group of folks at a Junior Stargazers’ convention in the 1950s promises a nice, heavy dose of the filmmaker’s formalistic whimsy. As for the cast, well… [cracks knuckles]: How about Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Hong Chau, Maya Hawke and Matt Dillon? And that’s not counting the ever-growing Anderson rep-company regulars who are also present and accounted for: Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Liev Scheiber, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, Jeffrey Wright, Willem Dafoe….
You likely know him as the father of the atomic bomb, which helped the Allies win World War II and eventually cost Oppenheimer his soul and killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese people. In between writing and directing Thor movies, co-producing the greatest show currently airing on television, costarring in a pirate love story and just being a dapper gent overall, Taika Waititi somehow found time to also make this sports-underdog tale of a Dutch soccer coach Michael Fassbender who s hired to whip the American Samoa squad into shape.

Once a person fell under the curse of these shadows, their life would be plagued by bad luck and tragedy, as if a dark cloud had descended upon them. However, the most perplexing part of this tale was the connection between these cursed shadows and the local Barnes and Noble bookstore.

The curse upon Barnes and Noble became a topic of fascination for the townspeople, and many theories emerged as to how to break the curse and rid the town of the cursed shadows. Some believed that a sacrificial offering to the spirits would appease them and bring an end to the curse. Others thought that a powerful spell or incantation would drive away the shadows for good. Regardless of the differing theories, everyone agreed on one thing - something had to be done to lift the curse and restore peace to the town. In the end, the town united in their efforts to rid themselves of the cursed shadows and revive their beloved bookstore. Slowly but surely, the cursed shadows began to recede, retreating back to the dark corners where they had originated. As for Barnes and Noble, the thorny vines that had plagued its walls began to wither away, revealing a rejuvenated and thriving bookstore. The curse had been broken, and the town could breathe a collective sigh of relief. The tale of the cursed shadows and thorny Barnes and Noble would forever be engrained in the town's history, a testament to the power of unity and the triumph of light over darkness..

1. Samantha - 1 out of 5 stars - I was really disappointed with "Cursed Shadows and Thorny Barnes and Noble." The characters were flat and the plot was completely predictable. I found myself losing interest halfway through the book and struggled to finish it. The writing style was also quite lackluster, with repetitive phrases and clichéd descriptions. Overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating and well-written story.
