great vid as always gunman, learned a lot though yr vids and reviews…. the red looks fantastic, the blue looks to dark for me as though its lost its transparency, i know its a test panel and like you said it may need to be flow coated to really give it that depth…. i wonder if maybe in the blue it would be possible to lower the mix to 25 or poss even 20 grams in the clear to bring in that transparency and pull the silver through more… or would that not be recommended and have a negative effect Reply

Excellent vid gunny. I’m about to do my Honda VFR800 in candy blue. I have been told that once I have applied the candy to wait 2 weeks before flow coating, any thoughts on that? Reply

So you mean, base silver then 2-3 coats candy mixed with clear then wait 2 weeks?
I’d follow every step I did here but do an extra 2 coats of clear after the candy then leave it in the sun for a week then flow coat, yes if you have the time leave it 2 weeks, this will help the solvents release from the clear and less chance of solvent boil and lose gloss over time. Reply

Yes mate. Silver base, then candy mixed with clear, with the 2 extra coats of clear as you suggest and then wait 2 weeks to flow coat. Unfortunately no sun here in cold damp UK.

Hi Gunman, I have been told I require the following to full respray on a VL Calais.
8 litres of Silver Flare, 8 litres of Sapphire Blue Candy, 8 litres of Reducer, plus 7 litres of clear.
This seems a lot of product considering formulas etc.
Could you please advise what sort of amounts you would use.

Candy (mid-coat/tri-coat) Application Questions

A candy paint finish application consists of applying a metallic base color, then the application of a transparent candy layer, and then the application of a protective clear coat to help extend the life of the candy finish and magnify the depth of the metallic finish. Each layer of candy coverage creates a darker tint. Most candies provide a deep metallic finish and a difference in the shade contrast when viewed under different lighting conditions. Candy coat or sometimes referred to as the "mid coat" or "top coat" and usually are a very translucent color or may contain be a intercoat containing pearls and/or flakes.

What type or color base coat do I use for a candy paint?

Each Candy mid coat requires a different base coat mixed specifically for that Candy coat. We will say there are typically (15) different shades of base coats in our system we use to create every color. Most base coats we use are custom mixed.
