The "Amulet" book series is a popular fantasy graphic novel series written and illustrated by Kazu Kibuishi. The series follows the story of Emily Hayes, a young girl who discovers a mysterious amulet in her great-grandfather's house. While the conditions of slavery in the U.S. were brutal and crushing for the millions of men, women and children who by law were not considered fully human, people found ways to resist, rebel and survive enslavement in a place they were never meant to be.
