  • and Black Lives Matter

Most of our attendees come from Colorado or surrounding states, but we have folks coming from all over the U.S. and a surprisingly strong contingent from Canada. Our first spiritual retreat under this name was in 1985. We are an incorporated membership-based organization with a relatively egalitarian structure. We do not have our own land, but we have set up a fund to save toward the purchase of a property. With the approval of our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, we are actively searching for land we can call our own.

We have been honored by the presence of some well-known pagans, but we do not choose to solicit or pay for Guests of Honor at this retreat.

This is a camping retreat with no permanent camping facilities, though port-a-potties, trash, and community areas are provided by Dragonfest. There are no hookups for RVs. There are no fire pits; if you wish to build a campfire, please bring a device that will keep the fire above the ground (please pay attention to the current fire restrictions or bans. It is your responsibility to comply with the law). The event is about 8,000 feet above sea level, near Bailey, Colorado. Nights can get cool, with temperatures dipping into the low 30s at times. Daytime temperatures can reach into the 80s. There is a clothing-optional area for camping. Main gathering areas, such as the community center, main rituals, and most workshops are clothing required to allow everyone to attend.

Pagan Retreats: How to Prepare Yourself Magically

Each year thousands of people gather at magical retreats of every kind. Each year I personally try to attend as many of these as possible. This past February I attended PantheaCon and as we near the end of August we are preparing for the Temple of Witchcraft’s TempleFest. Attending these places of immersive magical learning has made me think quite a bit about the things that I do each time to prepare myself. Here are just a few of the tried and true preparations that I do for my favorite retreats each year.

1. Use Protection

  • Wear protective charms and jewelry.
  • Make a sachet for protection using herbs, oils and stones and carry it with you. If you are traveling pretty far it’s a smart idea to make one for safe travel as well!

One of my favorite things that I learned from my teacher and high priestess, Alix Wright, is to take a stone and create a tether to the underworld in order to process any excess and heavy energy. While you are at the festival the stone will act as a filter for this energy rather than having it stay with you. Make sure to leave the rock somewhere in nature after the festival instead of taking it with you, and don’t leave it in any trees!

2. Bring Offerings/Items to Charge

Each year I bring a little something to charge with the energy of community. This obviously depends on the festival though as some are more community driven than others. One of my prized possessions and something that has reminded me of why I do this work regularly is a small vile of ash from our community’s Sacred Fire. This should go without saying, but please be aware of the environment when you take anything or leave offerings and please ask permission first!

3. An Open Mind – Willingness to Move Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Some of the biggest moments of growth for me have been during these retreats with community. Allow yourself to be immersed in the experience and leave your cellphones in the cabin. Be open to experience and moving outside of your preconceived ideas of what magic and witchcraft is. If you only stick to the workshops and rituals of topics that you’re familiar with then you’re not really giving yourself the opportunity to learn.

4. Regular Grounding and Alone Time

On that note, don’t feel like you need to do everything. Give yourself time to reflect, be with the land that the event is taking place on and do some self-guided learning with the local spirits. Spiritual FoMO (fear of missing out) is real, but I can guarantee you that if you give yourself the time to be alone with the spirits and digest everything then you will learn things that will never be taught in a classroom.

5. Intent

Intent may not be everything, but it can make a huge difference in the experience that you get. Is there a personal working you’ve been doing? Something that you have been meaning to delve deeper into, but haven’t had the time or resources? Take this time away from the daily hubbub while you are surrounded by others of like mind to dig deeper into this work. Be mindful in all that you do and you will leave feeling much more accomplished for it.

All in all, have fun!

Do something that excites you and gets your heart pumping. Ultimately the experience you have is the one you set yourself up for, so make it one that matters!

With his dedicated fanbase, it is certain that the release of Amulet Book 8 will be highly anticipated. Fans of the series are encouraged to stay updated on the official Amulet website or follow Kazu Kibuishi's social media accounts for any announcements regarding the release date..

Reviews for "Amulet Book 8 Release Date: A Game-Changer in the Series"

1. Megan - 1 star - I was really disappointed with the release date of Amulet book 8. I have been waiting eagerly for this book for months, and the release date was constantly pushed back. It felt like the publishers were just toying with us fans. When the book finally did come out, it didn't live up to the hype. The plot was weak, and the characters lacked depth. Overall, a huge letdown.
2. Jason - 2 stars - As a long-time fan of the Amulet series, I was expecting so much more from book 8. However, I found the story to be confusing and disjointed. The pacing was off, and it felt like the author was trying to cram too much into one book. Additionally, the artwork, which is usually one of the highlights of the series, seemed rushed and lacked detail. I was hoping for a satisfying continuation of the story, but unfortunately, I was left feeling underwhelmed.
3. Emily - 3 stars - While I didn't hate Amulet book 8, I can't say that I loved it either. The release date delay was frustrating, but even more disappointing was the lack of character development. The main characters, who I have grown to love over the course of the series, seemed to have lost their essence in this book. The storyline was also somewhat predictable, and I didn't feel as engaged as I did with previous installments. Overall, book 8 just didn't live up to my expectations.
