Yangus is a bandit with a heart of gold, Jessica is a fiesty magician, and the titular cursed King is a funnily written character who's struggling to get used to his new form. After all I was just in a bar room brawl that had me chuckling at how each of my party members handled the situation.
I see why the instant Alchemy Pot would be nice but with PCSX's 2x speed for overworld AND combat in a game that's already grindy, it's fine. Plus this game looks gorgeous still and why I don't want to scrap my progress to switch to a version that's 240p.
Spoiler: ScreenshotsAs I said in another threadmark combat is good not just because of 2x speed but because I feel like the abilities gained from skill point allocation and the tension system are great even if not all that deep. Though I gotta give the game the side-eye for Jessica's character specific skill point being sex appeal. Mechanically it's nice being able to "stun" enemies by making them fall in love with her but holy shit that made the game seem straight outta the 40s or something.
And while Dhoulmagus has still yet to really establish himself as our villain, the moment to moment story of just following his trail of destruction is at least serviceable. I had similar complaints with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition where the overall story was lacking though I was enjoying the characters and their recruitment by helping them out of their jams as we traveled the world.
Finally, I think expectations are the biggest reason why I'm enjoying myself.
