This happens sometimes when using Magic System to play CD games - all the sound functions haven't been fully implemented yet. But you can work around this problem by using the original System Card ROM instead, just copy this ROM (SYSCARD3.PCE) in MagicEngine directory, the emulator will detect it automaticaly and use it instead of Magic System.
CD game 'xxxx' doesn't work, can I do something?Did you try to run this game using the System Card ROM (SYSCARD3.PCE)? A few CD games don't work if you run them with Magic System. The opposite can also be true, some games run only with Magic System. Be sure to always try the two different systems (in v1.00 click on the little down arrow in the 'boot cd' menu to change the CD system). If nothing work then may be this game isn't correctly emulated by MagicEngine, in such a case feel free to report the problem to us, we will try to fix it.
game 'xxxx' doesn't work with the demo version, will it work with the registered version? No. There's no difference between the demo and the registered version, both versions have the same emulation core, if a game doesn't work with the demo version it won't work with the registered version either.
can it load .FCD files? No, MagicEngine can not load these files, this format is not supported. can it read CD ISO files? No, it reads only true CDs. do you plan to support CD ISO files in a future version? No, for now this is not planned. how to make MagicEngine use another CD-ROM drive? If you are using version 1.0 of MagicEngine you can directly change the CD-ROM drive from the GUI, in the 'boot cd' menu, but if you are using an older version you will need to change the 'drive' option in the pce.ini file (0 = first CD-ROM drive, 1 = second, etc. ), or if your PC is running Windows 2000 or XP you can also change the 'drive_letter' option, simply set it to the letter of your CD-ROM drive (D:, E:, etc. ).
what file names should I use for the System Card ROMs, MagicEngine doesn't recognize the ROMs I have.
The different file names are : SYSCARD1.PCE, SYSCARD2.PCE, SYSCARD3.PCE, and GE.PCE for the Game Express System Card. Don't use compressed ROMs.
About the Windows version.
does it works with Windows XP?Yes, it works well with Windows XP.
If you encounter graphics slowdown or graphics glitches change the video driver. By default MagicEngine uses DirectX but some video cards work better with OpenGL. To change the video driver double-click on the pce.ini file, look for the 'driver' option, change it and save the file.
There are two calibration options in the pce.ini file : 'auto_calibration_1', and 'auto_calibration_2', the first one is for adjusting the up and left directions and the second option is for the right and down directions. Try to increase or decrease the values depending of the problem.
I want to register.
how much does MagicEngine cost? It costs 15 Euro (that's about $19 USD or 10 GBP). what are the payment methods?- 1) online with a credit card (on a secure site)
- 2) by cash (most currencies accepted)
- 3) by international money order
If you pay by credit card it usualy takes between 24 and 48 hours, sometimes a little bit more but it's rare. If you pay by money order or by cash, delay depends of the postal service, about 3-5 days in Europe, 5-7 days for USA or Japan.
can I use a Yahoo or Hotmail e-mail address to buy MagicEngine?Yes, but we do not recommend it. Those e-mail services often block or delete the e-mail with the key file. If you used such an e-mail address and didn't receive your key file contact us (either from the support page or from the forums).
I am a registered user.
will I have to pay to get newer versions? No no, you won't have to pay anything. Newer versions are free for registered users. can I upgrade from the DOS version to the Windows version, or the opposite?Yes. We make no distinctions between the different PC versions, if you registered one, you have also access to the other.
the key file I received works only with version 1.0, can I make it work with version 0.99 too? Yes. Just rename the 'KEY.DAT' file to 'PCE.KEY'Copyright © 1997-2021 David & Cédric Michel. All rights reserved. |

The Magic Tree House graphic novels are illustrated by artist Salvatore Murdocca, who brings the characters and settings to life in vivid and engaging detail. The graphic novels include all the classic elements of the original stories, such as time travel, historical settings, and exciting adventures. However, they also add a visual element that makes the stories even more accessible and captivating for young readers.
About MagicEngine
This tutorial is to help you with MagicEngine for Windows. MagicEngine is, hands down, the best TurboGrafx16 emulator out there. Its interface is easy to use. It runs every type of game perfectly: regular carts, arcade carts, Super CD, Super CD 2 , Arcade CD. However, MagicEngine needs to be purchased. It costs $30 US. Its free trial lets you play games for 5 minutes. If you're a passionate classic gamer, the $30 fee is worth the cost! Otherwise, a good, free alternative is Ootake.
There's another thing that might turn you off about MagicEngine (and Ootake). CD games can only be played via your CD-ROM drive. It does not support booting CD games from ISO. That really sucks because we don't really use CD-ROM drives anymore. RetroArch, a multi-system emulator, does allow you to boot CD games from ISO.
MagicEngine can be downloaded from its homepage: magicengine.com.
The graphic novels are designed for readers aged 6 to 9, making them perfect for emerging readers or those who may be hesitant to tackle longer chapter books. The illustrations help to break up the text, making it easier for young readers to follow along and understand the story. The combination of illustrations and text also allows children to practice their reading skills while still enjoying a visually stimulating experience. One of the great strengths of the Magic Tree House graphic novels is their ability to transport readers to different times and places. The series covers a wide range of historical periods and locations, including ancient Egypt, the Wild West, and the Middle Ages. By exploring these different settings, the graphic novels not only entertain readers but also introduce them to various historical events and cultures. Overall, the Magic Tree House graphic novels are a wonderful addition to the series. They offer a visually appealing and accessible format for young readers to enjoy the adventures of Jack and Annie. Whether children are already fans of the chapter books or new to the series, the graphic novels provide an exciting and engaging reading experience..
