Mascot injuries prompt safety review

Yesterday, during the halftime show at the football game, the mascot was accidentally hit by a member of the dance team. The incident happened when the mascot was performing a dance routine on the sideline. One of the dancers, who was performing a high-energy flip, miscalculated her landing and collided with the mascot. The impact caused the mascot to fall to the ground and temporarily lose consciousness. Medical personnel quickly rushed to the mascot's aid and transported him to the nearby hospital. It was later confirmed that the mascot had suffered a mild concussion from the incident.

“Acts of violence have no place in the Springfield College Community and will not be tolerated,” Tiraboschi said. The chief urges anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the department at 413-748-5555.

Springfield College ‘Spirit the Lion’ mascot hit by dining hall employee

A Springfield College dining hall employee hit a school mascot who was handing out candy on campus Tuesday morning, according to the school’s Department of Public Safety.

The college mascot is a maroon female lion named “Spirit” who wears a white Springfield College basketball jersey and represents the college’s motto of “Pride,” because a group of lions is called a pride.
