Character: Rachel Berry Age (yours, not the character’s): 17 Time Zone: BRT Preferred Ships (if any): Faberry, Pezberry, St. Berry and Puckleberry, but open to others House (Hogwarts-equivalent, make an intelligent argument for your character’s sorting): Colson. The way I see it, Rachel’s most prominent trait is her ambition – exactly what would put her in Slytherin, or, in this case, Colson. Even though she’s generally a “good girl”, she also doesn’t hesitate to break some rules to get where/what she wants (for instance, when she sent Sunshine to a crack house). Her love for fame is also quite characteristic of the house. 2-3 Para Writing Sample (in character or best representation of your RP skill): To Rachel, being sad was something much more deep than just sulking around corners until the day was over and being generally closed off to people. No, when she was sad over such silly, small things, she’d make sure she went over the top. And, that night, being over the top meant hugging a bottle of fire whiskey at the Astronomy Tower while singing a bit more loudly than it was wise to, given the conditions. So maybe it was exaggerated to be upset over the fact that Quinn didn’t interact with her at all in the past few days, and her Runes teacher gave her a grade that wasn’t as good as expected, and her friends were too busy with their own lives to pay much attention to her. Nonetheless, the brunette was never one to hold back, and she thought that the night called for some mindless drinking and an act as if she just got her heart broken. “Some days aren’t yours at all… they come and go as if they’re someone else’s days, they come and leave you behind someone else’s face, and it’s harsher than yours… and colder than yours…” Even though she was slightly intoxicated, Rachel managed to maintain a perfect pitch as she sung and semi-waltzed around, the bottle kept firmly in her hand as she danced alone. However, a little bump on the ground made the girl trip and fall on her butt on the ground, which seemed immensely funny to her at the moment. Laughing a bit more that the situation called for, Rachel went on, this time sitting on the floor and waving the bottle to a non-existent crowd. “They come in all quiet, sweep up, and then they leave… oh Merlin.” She started giggling again for no reason at all, this time shaking her head slightly and taking another sip of fire whiskey, making a face as her throat burned with the alcohol.

Salem Witches' Institute

The Salem Witches' Institute is a magical institute, possibly a school [1] , presumably located in Salem , Massachusetts. Based on its name, it presumably only accepts female members. Some of the institute's members attended the 1994 Quidditch World Cup, and were gossiping happily in between two tents bearing their school's name.

Maybe it's the familiar tastes and smells that remind us of our loved ones or the simple act of savoring each bite that brings us comfort. Whatever it may be, magical comfort food has a way of brightening even the darkest of days. One of the best things about comfort food is that it is often passed down through generations, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and tradition.

Behind the scenes [ ]

  • Some fans believe this to be the American wizarding school that J. K. Rowling claimed in an interview would be mentioned in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. However, assuming she meant "American" to mean the Americas in general rather than merely the United States, another American school is mentioned in the same book. Additionally, the only known members of this institution are described as middle-aged (though they could be teachers or alumni).
  • Assuming it is not a school, the institution may be a magical counterpart to the Women's Institutes, though these primarily exist in Great Britain and Canada in the real world, though muggles would not actually know if there was a magical women's institute in the United States because it would have all kinds of muggle repellents on it.
  • The banner which displays the school's name is described in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a "spangled banner", possibly the American Flag, which is "spangled" with stars and referred to in the American National Anthem as "the star-spangled banner".
  • If it is indeed a school, the name "Witches' Institute" would suggest it is a girls only school, probably indicating that there is indeed a boys school too.
  • It is also possible that the name is merely derived from the Salem Witches themselves, and may in fact have nothing to do with the students that attend it.
  • The name of the school, based in Salem, Massachusetts, is most likely influenced by the infamous Salem Witch Trials.

1. Emily - 2/5 - I had high hopes for "Magical comfort food" based on all the hype it received, but I was sorely disappointed. The storyline was predictable, the characters were one-dimensional and the writing style was lackluster.
