Last summer, I had the misfortune of attending a bad magic summer camp. From the very first day, I knew something was off. The camp was located in a secluded area deep in the woods, which seemed intriguing at first, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. The camp counselors were dressed in shabby robes and had unkempt hair. They seemed more interested in perfecting their own magic tricks rather than teaching us anything. Instead of imparting their knowledge and skills, they would perform complicated spells and leave us in awe but utterly confused.

As the body count rises, Tara has to get past her fears, reconnect with her magic, and cast herself in a more central role to save the town—even if it means putting her new relationship at risk.

The Bewitching Hour is a full of '90s nostalgia, mysterious murders, and a star-crossed sapphic romance, blended perfectly together by New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Ashley Poston.

As the body count rises, Tara has to get past her fears, reconnect with her magic, and cast herself in a more central role to save the town even if it means putting her new relationship at risk. The end result achieves a sense of fun and mirrors the classic pop of the song itself, instantly recognizable but with subtle twists and gently subversive touches.

Do you sense the bewitching magic in my touch

Instead of imparting their knowledge and skills, they would perform complicated spells and leave us in awe but utterly confused. The camp's facilities were far from what one would expect at a summer camp. The cabins were old and dilapidated, with creaky floors and leaky roofs.

The Bewitching Hour (A Tara Prequel)

In this Buffy the Vampire Slayer prequel, fan-favorite and LGBTQIA+ icon Tara Maclay gets the main character treatment . . . whether she wants it or not.

Tara Maclay isn’t thrilled to be in a new town for her senior year of high school. She misses her mom, her garden, her magic—and the way her dad treated her before her mom passed. But if Tara can just keep her head down, then maybe she can make it through this year in Hellborne, Vermont without the town living up to its name.

Of course, her plan falls apart immediately, as dead students start turning up around her, and she’s suddenly voted Most Likely To Have Murdered Them by the rest of the senior class. Oh, and the fellow new girl Tara’s crushing on? Turns out to be a witch-hunter. . . . So maybe it’s not the worst thing that Tara’s magic is majorly malfunctioning.

The dining hall served unappetizing and tasteless meals, which made the overall experience even worse. The camp activities were nothing short of disastrous. On one occasion, we were supposed to learn levitation spells, but instead, we ended up floating helplessly in the air for hours. It was both terrifying and frustrating, as the counselors couldn't seem to control their spells. Another time, we were given the task of transforming objects into different shapes. However, the transformation spells went haywire, and our belongings were permanently warped and twisted. It was disheartening to watch our prized possessions being destroyed. One of the worst experiences was the "Magic Talent Show" at the end of the camp. All the campers were supposed to showcase their magical abilities. However, the counselors showed favoritism towards certain campers, leaving others feeling neglected and humiliated. It was a complete disaster, with spells going wrong, props malfunctioning, and nothing impressive happening at all. Overall, the bad magic summer camp was a complete disappointment. Instead of learning and enjoying the world of magic, it made me question my interest in it. The poorly trained counselors, dilapidated facilities, and disastrous activities left me longing for a real, well-organized magic camp experience. Unfortunately, this camp was a major letdown..
