Junji Ito's magic carfs: a glimpse into a parallel universe

By admin

Junji Ito is a Japanese manga artist who is known for his horror-themed works. One of his notable works is "Uzumaki," a story about a town haunted by spirals. Another popular work of his is "Tomie," which revolves around a beautiful immortal girl who drives men to madness. While Junji Ito is primarily known for his horror manga, he has also dabbled in other genres, including fantasy. In one of his works called "Magic Carpets," he explores the concept of magical carpets and their mysterious powers. In "Magic Carpets," Junji Ito introduces readers to a world where special carpets hold magical properties.

Mount or wings?

I'm personally torn. Way I see it there's three main choices for infinite flight options.

Black Spot
+ Great max speed with a charge.
+ Direction key based aerial control.
+ Frees up all mobility accessories for murder.
+ Pretty easy to get with a non-master character if you're willing to start a master map for it. (a pre-mech boss character with a dart rifle can handle the entire invasion and multiple dutchmen without too much difficulty)
- Clunky acceleration and slow turning = Not great at dodging unless you're always running from the boss.
- Can't dash while mounted.
- Too far for easy mining or dodging.

Witch's Broomstick
+ Decent acceleration.
+ Direction key based aerial control.
+ No accessory infinite flight time.
+ Normal size means never needing to dismount.
+ Frees up all mobility accessories for murder.
- No charge attack.
- Lowest max speed of the three.
- Still can't dash while mounted.

Celestial Starboard + Soaring Insignia
+ Can dash.
+ Great acceleration and max speed.
+ Normal size for moving around.
- Needs two accessory slots.
- More awkward jump+directional arrow movement.
- Can't just sit in mid air hands free.

So which do you prefer? Which is optimal? Is there a better option out there I'm missing? Is there a Soaring Insignia of Cthulhu that lets you dash in any cardinal direction on a mount? Is Soaring Insignia just a trap not worth the slot?

We need a wing slot IMHO. Reactions: Koogun and Kholai

Wings with hover ability with Insignia is pretty great, but yeah, flying mounts are just better, I kinda prefer going wings on Melee and Summoner, while Ranger and Mage prefers all of the damage builds.

Mostly answering for end game building, I like the witch’s broom for it, I would use the ufo mount, but it just isn’t as good.

Wich mount is the best one in the game? (your opinion)

The cute fishron is great for when you can get but in the early game I think that you should not use a mount for bosses except for the slimy saddle and the golf cart.

Plantera

Honestly, for most content I'd just say Slimy Saddle or Gelatinous PIllion, and maybe Shrimpy Truffle depending on progression. The truffle barely outclasses most hardmode wings in horizontal speed and has infinite flight, so you can basically throw away your cross-world arena where you run away from Skeletron Prime for 10 minutes. Otherwise wings + slime drastically outclasses literally any mount in the game in terms of sheer maneuverability,
Of course if you're post-Plantera then Witch's Broom is an option for EoL but after that you can slap a Hoverboard and Soaring Insignia together to get the same movement at drastically higher speeds.
I usually use Pillion against Moon Lord for getting the hell out of his way and """Pre-Mech""" (I just body the Destroyer a bunch of times first lol) I use Truffle.

What movement accessories/equipment do you usually use when fighting Empress of Light?

I'm curious to see how differing strategies may be for this fight, I was amazed to see how different Moon Lord fights were from player to player, even after 1.4! So what equipment and general strategy do you guys go with? If your curious with mine, I usually use Hexxed Branch, Master Ninja Gear, and I typically go for Fishron wings but any pair of endgame wings will do.
Edit: I also use Amphibian Boots! Forgot to mention that, was really tired, sorry!

Witch broom, and no movement accesories on the first fight.
After I get soaring insignia + betsy wings I may switch to that since that grants so much mobillity it's worth the 2 accessory slots but that requires killing empress first.

First fight, I use Fishron Wings, Master Ninja Gear and Spectre Boots or any upgrade, but to be fair those three accessories are just things I have equipped all the time regardless of situation. I also like to use the Gelatinous Pillion as my mount, because it lets you fall very quickly and escape boss attacks, and during this battle I don’t usually find myself using infinite flight mounts.

After the first fight, I replace my Spectre Boots with Soaring Insignia, and Fishron Wings with Empress Wings if I get them, but generally keep the same strategy.

For the first Empress fight, my go-to is Hoverboard, Amphibian Boots and Master Ninja Gear plus the Gelatinous Pillion. Then I replace the latter two accessories with the Soaring Insignia afterwards. Sometimes I'll use Empress Wings, but generally I prefer hovering to crazy ascent speed.

Whenever I do daytime Empress, it's with Betsy Wings + Soaring Insignia to be mobility god.

Really spectre boots? You should use amphibian boots instead, 48% vertical flight speed is far more usful than a slight increase in flight time.

Honest answer? I can’t be bothered to fish for them. I know how good they are, but I really hate fishing for long periods of time. After three or four minutes of fishing I start to get pissed if I don’t have what I want, and unlike frozen turtle shells or biome keys or the like, I can’t AFK farm it. Of course I use them if I get both materials at some point while fishing for potions, but that doesn’t happen often. Never felt like I struggled without them, so I’ve never felt obligated to spend the time fishing.

I've been using the frog leg for years and to me any pair of wings that isn't frog leg boosted feels unbearably slow. I also never have trouble getting a frog leg because I'm already fishing for potion ingredients.

Fair enough. I never used Frog Leg before 1.4 because of the accessory slot, so I’m much more used to my speed without it. I did use Amphibian Boots once or twice after they were added after getting the materials by chance (I do fish for potions before bosses), but sitting down and explicitey fishing for a long period of time for amphibian boots is honestly too dull and tiring for my taste.

I end up needing to fish for ice skates if I want Terraspark more often than I should and Terraria luck always hates me when I do so I completely agree that fishing can be boring lmao, but Amphibian Boots are definitely worth considering for fights if you're using wings, they're almost a necessity for me at this point because I'm so used to the speed!

Along with what everyone else said. Shield of Cthulhu could be useful at times to get that extra dash in.

Wait, can you dash more often with both the Shield of Cthulhu and the Master Ninja Gear equipped? Or Shield of Cthulhu instead of Master Ninja Gear? I always wondered if SoC was still viable after Plantera

terraspark boots aren't worth getting, the lava wader effects can be completely replaced with 2 cheap potions

Shield of cthulu can be used to dash off of charging bosses, this is really only useful against duke post plant. I don't use master ninja gear though because hover wings become available which grant high acceleration

I Like Cats

The Destroyer

shield of Cthulu is completely useless, especially if you are using master ninja gear (because the dash delay is not reduced). good wings are important, but witch broom/ cosmic car keys are not nearly fast enough to deal with empress, I recommend a bunch of movement accesorys and don't forget to give them warding pre-fight, even with all of that its still not nearly fast enough, so it is relivent that you create a asphalt runway (sky bride-and at least half the length of your world.) overall here is the crucial list. for the first fight.

(((ALL ITEMS POSSIBLE SHOULD HAVE WARDING)))
valhala breast plate.
sqires helmet. (regen is key in the first fight because empress does not instant kill you but you will be low beyond repair if not kitted out)
solar (or beetle works to if you are fighting her pre moonlord) greeves
charm of myths
celestial chell
celestial stone
terra spark boots ( or any speed boots)
mater ninja gear.
speed potions (forgot the names)
iron skin
endurance
regeneration band
weopan of choice (I recommend ranged)
wrath
rage

for the daytime fight wings are the secret change to the meatest set you have and find frog legs plus ampibain boots if you are feeling like an idiot

((ALL ITEMS POSSIBLE SHOULD HAVE WARDING UNLESS ADVISED OTHER WISE))

chlorophyte mask.
beetle breastplate
monk greeves
cross necklace (optional)
frog legs (required) (fastest reforge don't use warding)
fishoron wings (required) (fastest reforge don't use waridng)
master ninja gear (required)
amphibian boots (optional)
fleash nuckels (optional)
palidins shield (optional)
moonstone (optional)
ankh shield (optional)
Terra spark boots (optional)
speed potions
wrath potions
endurance potions
rage potions
pumpkin pie
iron skin potion
dryads blessing (place her below the runway goes without saying)
brand of inferno
segent uniteds shield
((THIS CAN BE SWAPED FOR THE GUNGIR DAMAGE REDUCTION SET IF WISHED BUT BE ADVISED THAT LOW SPEED IS DANGEROUS IN BATTLE)

this is the list that work for me however I often over prep because I am utter trash at all forms of combat. sorry if this is rubbing of angry I do not by any means intend that message.

In "Magic Carpets," Junji Ito introduces readers to a world where special carpets hold magical properties. These carpets are not just ordinary rugs, but rather objects that possess incredible powers. They are capable of granting wishes, transporting individuals to different realms, and even altering reality itself.

Junji uto magic carfs

However, like most of Junji Ito's works, "Magic Carpets" is not without its dark twist. The magic carpets in this story often come with a hidden price or a curse. For example, someone who wishes for wealth and success may find themselves losing their loved ones or being haunted by the constant fear of losing everything they have gained. Through "Magic Carpets," Junji Ito explores themes of desire, temptation, and consequences. He delves into the human pursuit of power and how the allure of magic can corrupt even the purest intentions. The story serves as a cautionary tale, reminding readers that every wish granted may come with a cost. Junji Ito's "Magic Carpets" highlights his versatility as a manga artist. Despite being known for his horror works, he demonstrates his ability to create engaging and thought-provoking stories across different genres. Whether it's horror or fantasy, Junji Ito continues to captivate readers with his unique storytelling and striking visuals. So, if you are a fan of Junji Ito's work or enjoy fantasy with a dark twist, "Magic Carpets" is definitely a manga worth checking out. Just be prepared for the eerie and unsettling journey that awaits within its pages..

Reviews for "Junji Ito's magic carfs: a reflection of society's fears and anxieties"

1. Sandra - 1 star
I found "Junji Uto Magic Carfs" to be a major disappointment. The storylines were confusing and lacked coherence. The characters were poorly developed, and I couldn't connect with any of them. The art style, although unique, seemed messy and distracting. Overall, I felt that the manga lacked the depth and quality that I have come to expect from Junji Uto's work.
2. David - 2 stars
As a fan of Junji Uto's previous works, I was excited to dive into "Junji Uto Magic Carfs." However, I was left feeling underwhelmed after reading it. The stories felt disjointed and lacked a central theme. The art, while captivating at times, was let down by the inconsistent pacing and awkward panel layouts. I couldn't shake the feeling that the manga was rushed and not given enough time to fully develop its potential. Overall, I would not recommend "Junji Uto Magic Carfs" to fans of Junji Uto or anyone looking for a compelling manga experience.
3. Megan - 2.5 stars
"Junji Uto Magic Carfs" had its moments of intrigue, but overall, it failed to leave a lasting impression on me. The stories seemed repetitive, often revolving around similar supernatural occurrences or bizarre events. While there were a few unsettling moments, they were overshadowed by the lack of depth and originality. Additionally, the artwork, although atmospheric at times, couldn't compensate for the shortcomings in the storytelling. I would recommend exploring Uto's other works instead of investing time in "Junji Uto Magic Carfs."
