James Marsden Reveals the Surprising Reason He Turned Down a Role in 'Magic Mike'

James Marsden is opening up about the reason he decided to turn down a role in 2012's Magic Mike.

While appearing on Tuesday night's The Late Late Show with James Corden to promote his miniseries The Stand, the actor revealed projects he was "happy" he said "no" to as well as offers he regrets turning down.

One of those was Channing Tatum's star-studded movie about male strippers trying to make a living.

"I was offered a role in Magic Mike," Marsden, 47, said. "I had the fear that I would be edited out of the movie, that all my lines would be cut out."

He added, "I think it was a lack of courage on my part."

Although Marsden would count Magic Mike as a film he would "do over," he said he had "friends and family who still think it was a wise idea for me not to do it because they don't want to see me like that."

Still, the Westworld star said he "could have jumped in and had fun with that" role.

"More often than not, I'm happy when I look back and I've avoided some pitfalls," he concluded.

The father of three also spoke about moving to Austin, Texas, at the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown in March 2020, telling Corden he loved the city.

"I grew up in Oklahoma close by, so I'm back in the region, and I've always visited Austin the last 20 years of my life," Marsden said. "Always taken my kids down here, always wanted to get a ranch and build on some land and. this last year has made me realize that maybe now is the time for a little change and hey, go do it."

"I'm kind of diving in headfirst," he added. "Nothing is irreversible so if it doesn't work out, I can always come back. I've been in L.A. a long time, but I've been enjoying it."
