Magic devices can also be equipped as a secondary weapon for staff, knuckles, and 1h sword wielders if they want faster charges/ are playing with magic for support dps for the knuckles users and swordsmen. It comes with the cost of lowering atk for the physical weapons however. I play using a sword and magic device and it doesn't really cripple me all that much. I do it for the red mage roleplaying. Lol.

I didn't know devices sped up casts for 1h users. That's extremely good to hear lol. But when you say it lowers atk you mean like compared to a dagger or like actual atk decrease?

The actual stat gets lowered. I have 250+ atk without it, and around 210 with one equipped.

For people who also use magic devices as a secondary, is there a point to using the other ones that get unlocked or can I just keep the first one? I don't get the stats off of it, at least I don't think I do.

They work as a agi support style weapon. I use it as my primary and can break interupt skills pretty well and cast heal quickly, plus with the added range of attack I find it easier to evade at times while still attacking. I use allot of passive regen while attacking for my mp regen. I feel its more a monk style weapon than a mage or brawler which meens less damage than either one of them but a tad more survivability. In boss battles you would fill a support role as in adding some damage, interupting attacks, and healing teammates.
