Yes, I know, I know. I haven't been posting here much as of the past year! Honestly, I just haven't had the time, or the time to even crochet (gasp!) I am working full time as an assistant market manager for a well known paint company, and. for myself- always the entrepreneur- as owner, maker, mixer, marketer, manager, shipper, et etc etc for my nail polish company, Atlantic Elixir. Getting back to crochet now, I really did enjoy making this hat! I am going to also wear it on Halloween :) I wanted to size it all out for smaller sizes, but alas. life gets in the way and I know I'm not going to have time. Time (sigh) I wish I had more of it.

• 1 ball worsted weight yarn (size 4) approximately 300 yds. (I apologize, I bought this yarn last year and can't remember what brand it was. it's a color changing yarn like Caron Cakes, but it wasn't Caron Cakes!)
• Crochet Hook Size 5.0mm

Rnd 48: -working in the unworked front sts back in Rnd 46- (sc in next 6 sts, 2sc in next st) 10 times. (80sc)

Rnd 57: -working in opposite direction- work 150 reverse sc (crab st), sl st in 1st st. Fasten off. Sew in ends!

I get that part but what about row 49? Im new to crochet so I’m having a hard time understanding how to start row 49. Delete

Row 49, just do your 1st HDC into the next stich, and proceed. It's not separated, it just continues in the round, without doing row joins in between. the rows stack up, in the same way a soft serve cone does, it just spirals. Delete

Since it uses SC at the beginning it's likely US terminology. UK doesn't use SC, it's called double crochet. Delete

So. either rounds 34-46 are completely unnecessary, or my stitching tension is not right, because i have attempted this hat several times now and it ends up being way longer/bigger proportionately compared to the example photo. The only time it looks about right is my recent version where i folded in that section of stitching to shorten it. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you. Reply Delete

Same. Near as I can work out, if you want the hat shorter on top, just cut out a few of those rows between 34-46. Or add more if you wanna elongate and make it slouchy/droopy/cottagecore Delete
