Illinois does not have a specific official mascot, but it has several unofficial symbols and mascots that are commonly associated with the state. One of the most well-known symbols is the "Abe Lincoln" mascot, which is a representation of the state's most famous resident, President Abraham Lincoln. The Abe Lincoln mascot is often seen at Illinois events and is portrayed as a tall, bearded man wearing a black suit and top hat. Another unofficial mascot of Illinois is the "Fighting Illini," which is the athletic nickname for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Fighting Illini mascot is Chief Illiniwek, a Native American chief who performs dances and other ceremonial activities at sporting events. However, Chief Illiniwek has been a subject of controversy and debate in recent years, with some arguing that it is offensive and disrespectful to Native American culture.

Ravens mascot injured in halftime football game

Poe, the Baltimore Ravens’ bird mascot, was carted off at halftime of Saturday night's game against the Washington Commanders with an apparent injury.

ESPN reported that the mascot was hurt while playing in a halftime football game between a squad of mascots and a youth football team.

Poe remained on the field for nearly five minutes because, according to the report, observers were unsure whether he was really injured.

One report said that the person in the suit may have suffered a torn ACL.

An update on the mascot's injury was not expected to come on Saturday night.

The Ravens would win the contest, 17-15, extending their record preseason winning streak to 23 straight games.

The Commanders pulled within two with 5:31 remaining when Sam Howell threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Bonnafon. A 2-point conversion pass was incomplete, helping preserve the streak, but Baltimore defensive back Kevon Seymour injured an ankle on the play. Teammate Zakoby McClain appeared to fall on Seymour’s right leg.

It was in this preseason matchup last year that the Ravens lost running back J.K. Dobbins to a season-ending knee injury. They seemed to avoid anything that serious this year — although in addition to the injury to Poe, Baltimore also announced that defensive tackle Aaron Crawford went down with a groin problem.

Neither team was taking too many chances: Quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Carson Wentz were among those who didn’t play.

We have an update on the most important injury in the NFL — the Ravens’ mascot, Poe.

The team’s bird mascot had to be carted off the field on Saturday after suffering a knee injury during halftime of the Ravens’ preseason showdown against the Commanders. On Monday, the team shared an update on Twitter, with a picture of Poe sitting in front of a Ravens flag with an ice pack on his knee.

“Thanks for all your concerned tweets,” the tweet read. “Poe took some damage to his drumstick and ruffled some feathers last night during his Mascot Classic. We’ll continue to share updates on Poe’s status, but he’s resting comfortably in his perch awaiting further test results.”

It remains unclear exactly what his injury was. Poe did walk out of the tunnel in the second half of the game, though some speculated that it was someone else in the costume.

Poe appeared to suffer the injury as several mascots and youth football players had a scrimmage on the field at M&T Bank Stadium. After getting tackled to the ground, he laid on the field for several moments, in front of a confused group of onlookers.

The Ravens eventually had to bring out a cart to help Poe off the field.

Baltimore doesn’t have a home game until Week 2 against the Dolphins. They face the Jets on the road in Week 1. It remains to be seen if Poe will be on the sidelines for the home opener.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens are making a feathered addition to their injured reserve list.

In a video posted on Twitter on Thursday, coach John Harbaugh announced that Poe, the team’s bird mascot, was going on IR. Poe was carted off the field at halftime of the Ravens’ preseason game against Washington last weekend. Poe was joined by other mascots for a halftime game before being injured.

On Sunday, the Ravens tweeted a picture of the mascot with ice on his left knee, saying he was “resting comfortably in his perch awaiting further test results.”

In his video Thursday , Harbaugh said Poe had a season-ending injury to his drumstick, and the team would find a replacement.

“We’re going to get right into evaluating our options and see where we go next,” Harbaugh said. “See if we can find somebody to replace Poe.”

However, Chief Illiniwek has been a subject of controversy and debate in recent years, with some arguing that it is offensive and disrespectful to Native American culture. In addition to these unofficial mascots, Illinois also has several official state symbols that are widely recognized. These include the state bird (northern cardinal), state flower (violet), state tree (white oak), and state animal (white-tailed deer).

While these symbols may not be mascots in the traditional sense, they are important representations of the state and its natural heritage. Overall, while Illinois does not have a specific official mascot, it does have several unofficial symbols and mascots that are commonly associated with the state. The Abe Lincoln mascot and the Fighting Illini are two of the most well-known examples, but the state also has a variety of official state symbols that represent its natural and cultural heritage..
