This function carries out regular automatic checks on the condition of battery, electronics and light source. This takes place in compliance with a protocol set down in the software of the micro-controller. This protocol meets the requirements of the IEC62034 international standard.
A light fitting which incorperates emergency lighting makes use of the following tests:
1. Commissioning Test: as soon as the fitting has been connected up to the mains for the first time. The batteries are charged for 12 hours following which a full autonomy test takes place. The batteries are then recharged over a period of 10 hours. The condition of the light fitting will thus become clear after 24 hours.
2. Monthly Function Test: automatic monthly test of 10 seconds.
3. Annual Autonomy Test: annual automatic full autonomy test of 1 hour or 3 hours (to be determined by dipswitch settings).
Test button
The button on the emergency light fitting enables you to check the functioning in the following ways:
1. By holding down the test button, or breaking the current on L1, the light fitting will revert to emergency lighting.
2. By releasing the test button, or reconnecting the current on L1, the light fitting will perform a Function Test.
3. By pressing and releasing the test button twice in the space of 5 seconds (or breaking and reconnecting the current on L1 twice in the space of 5 seconds). the fitting will reset itself. All errors in the memory of the micro-controller will be deleted. After this, the fitting will carry out a Short Function Test.
Bi-colour LED indicator
This indicator light on the emergency light fitting may light up with the following warnings:
1.Green continuously (10 sec. on, 0.5 sec. off) = fitting is on stand-by. All okay.
2. Green flashing (1.5 sec. on, 0.5 sec. off) = fitting is currently charging the batteries or carrying out a test.
3. Red rapid flashing (0.25 sec. on, 0.25 sec. off) = something is wrong in the LED light source, with the temperature sensor or the electronics. Send the internal mechanism off for repair. Reset the fitting after refitting the repaired component. Resetting can be done by pressing the test button twice in the space of 5 seconds or breaking and reconnecting the current on L1 twice in the space of 5 seconds.
5. Red slow flashing (0.5 sec. on, 1.5 sec. off) = battery defective or insufficient capacity. Replace the battery as described in the manual and reset the fitting by pressing the test button twice in the space of 5 seconds or breaking and reconnecting the current on L1 twice in the space of 5 seconds.

Since 1-1-2020 fittings with emergency lighting come with a special Long Life High Temp NiMh 3.6V 2.2 Ah battery pack. This batterypack wil give you a life time of more than 10 years if the avarage ambient temperature for the luminaire is between -20°C and +25°C. When you replace the batteries, the new battery pack should be attached to the circuit board in the proper way (black / - and red / +). Used batteries are considered to be chemical waste and must be disposed of in accordance with the statutory regulations.
