About Songful Style
Songful Style is a new ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle.
Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires you to create an outfit.
It is similar to Style Imitating Art where we use artwork to inspire our outfit creations. Except Songful Style gives you lyrics, music, video, and album artwork to inspire your fashion creativity. You may even find inspiration in a memory triggered by the selected song. It is all open to your own personal interpretation and just a fun way to discover new music and get a little bit more creative with your wardrobe.
Anyone is welcome to join us on a permanent basis or you can just play along without any obligation to do anything other than feel inspired. We are flexible and fun and just want to find more ways to play dress up because it’s what we enjoy doing!

After I decided to use this song as inspiration, I have to admit that I was quite thoroughly stumped! There are no sartorial references made in the lyrics and I wasn’t feeling much like dressing like a Chipmunk so I leaned into the whole idea of a witch doctor.
But then I wasn’t sure exactly how a witch doctor would dress. Heck, I wasn’t even really sure what a witch doctor does. So I headed to Wikipedia to find out.
If you thought a witch doctor practices magic and other witchy things, then you are as wrong as I was. Witch doctors are actually healers who treat ailments that were supposedly caused by witchcraft. So a witch doctor is essentially anti-witchcraft. Witch doctors historically are considered practitioners of traditional, indigenous, or folk medicine which varies only slightly from healers who utilize alternative treatments such as naturopathy, homeopathy, Ayurveda, chiropractic, faith healing, and of course, my favorite, Reiki.
Once I made the connection between witch doctors and energy healers, creating a “witch doctor” outfit was super easy…I just had to dress like myself!
The allure of bending reality to one's own will can be enticing for those who are dissatisfied with their own lives or seek vengeance against others. However, it is important to note that black magic is widely condemned by many religious and spiritual traditions. It is believed to be associated with negative energies and harmful consequences. Engaging in black magic practices is thought to invite dark forces into one's life, potentially leading to personal ruin or even possession. Despite the warnings and dangers associated with black magic, there are still enthusiasts who are willing to explore this sinister realm. These black magic fans may gather in secretive groups or join online communities dedicated to the study and practice of dark arts. They may experiment with different spells, potions, and rituals, hoping to tap into hidden powers and gain an edge over others. It is essential to approach the subject of black magic with caution and skepticism.
