Witch Tarot Cards: A Window into the Wiccan World

By admin

Witch tarot cards are a specific subset of tarot cards that depict witches or witch-related symbols and themes. These cards are often associated with witchcraft and magick, and are popular among those who practice or have an interest in these spiritual and occult traditions. The representation of witches in tarot cards can vary depending on the specific deck and the artist's interpretation. In some decks, the witch may be depicted as a stereotypical old hag with a pointed hat and broomstick, while in others she may appear as a more modern and fashionable witch. Some decks even feature male witches, emphasizing that witchcraft is not exclusive to women. The symbolism found in witch tarot cards often reflects the traditional associations of witchcraft, such as spellcasting, divination, and the use of magical tools like cauldrons, wands, and potions.

Old Black Witch, the cantankerous magical practitioner who lived in the attic above the Jug and Muffin Tea-room run by Nicky and his mother, emerges in time to learn of a cake-making contest in the nearby village of Oldwick in this second picture-book devoted to her adventures. Making her own special nut cake, Old Black Witch enters the contest, only to witness Mrs. Butterbean, wife of the village's most affluent citizen, cheating by entering a coconut cake created by a professional baker. Enraged that anyone (other than herself) would cheat, our witchy heroine absconds with her rival's cake, eventually winning a polka-dotted ribbon for her own creation, which is judged most original.

Published in 1970, Old Witch and the Polka-Dot Ribbon is the second of three books about this New England witch, following upon The Old Black Witch and preceding Old Witch Rescues Halloween. Despite that fact, it is the last of the three that I have read. Long out of print, and not in my library system, I had to track it down via inter-library loan. I'm glad that I did, as I found the story here amusing - I appreciate the fact that Old Black Witch is never domesticated, never made too sweet - and the artwork entertaining, in a vintage, cartoon-like style. There is a recipe for the Old Black Witch's magic nut cake on the back of the book, should young readers want to try their hand at making one of their own. Recommended to anyone who had read and enjoyed the other books about this character, or to any child who enjoys witchy tales in general. ( )

Reviews for "Witchy Wisdom: Uncovering the Teachings of Witch Tarot Cards"

1) John - ★★☆☆☆
I was quite disappointed with the representations of the witch tarot cards in this deck. I found them to be overly simplistic and lacking the depth and symbolism that I'm used to seeing in other decks. The artwork was also not very appealing to me and I felt like it didn't do justice to the subject matter. I was really hoping for a deck that would capture the essence of witchcraft and magic, but unfortunately, this one fell short for me.
2) Sarah - ★☆☆☆☆
I purchased this witch tarot card deck based on the positive reviews, but I regretted it as soon as I received it. The artwork is incredibly tacky and looks like it was done by someone with very little skill or understanding of the tarot. The imagery fails to convey any sort of mystical or enchanting feeling, which is crucial in a deck like this. It's such a shame because I was really excited to add a witch-themed deck to my collection, but this one simply does not deliver.
3) Linda - ★★☆☆☆
I was very unimpressed with the witch tarot card representations in this deck. The illustrations were overly simplistic and lacked the intricate details that I appreciate in tarot cards. The depictions of witches and magical elements felt generic and uninspired. I was hoping for a deck that would truly capture the essence of witchcraft and provide a deep and meaningful reading experience, but unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a quality witch tarot deck.
