The occult trilogy by Nora Roberts consists of three novels: "Blue Dahlia," "Black Rose," and "Red Lily." Each book follows the lives of three friends as they navigate love, careers, and encounters with the supernatural. In "Blue Dahlia," the main character Stella Rothchild moves to a small town in Tennessee to start a new life. She begins working at a nursery owned by Roz Harper, who is part of a group of witches. Stella soon discovers that she has a special connection to the supernatural and must learn to embrace her powers. Along the way, she finds love with a local landscaper named Logan Kitridge.

Cilla McGowen is the granddaughter of Hollywood legend Janet Hardy and the daughter of a Hollywood wannabe. She was a child star with her own series, but when the series ended and voice overs and bit parts didn't interest her any longer, she knew she wanted something more out of life than the flash and burn of Hollywood. So she went to college for a semester, then got married and subsequently divorced (even though her exhusband and her are still best friends).

A trilogy by Nora Roberts follows a trio of magical ladies as they embrace their gifts and learn to love on a fictional island off Cape Cod. This cozy spot in Massachussets has all the trappings of Martha’s Vineyard– the beach, the history, the small town feel–but the magic is unique. To break it, three modern-day women with the island’s magic must be careful not to make the same mistakes as their ancestors. Whether it’s falling hard for a dangerous man, fighting love away as a defense, or trying to control love by giving it all up, each woman must face her challenge.

Review:

This series spoke to me because I love to summer in Cape Cod. Unlike a lot of the Cape themed novels out today, this has a paranormal witchy aspect to it. I think this series is very unique in that way, and so it may interest readers who love witches, spells, magic, or paranormal thrillers. Primarily the stories are romance. Taking place in a small town, you are introduced to most characters from the start. The main characters are sweetie-pie chef Nell, aggressive policewoman Ripley, and fiesty bookstore owner Mia. Three women are imbued with special powers on the island, but that doesn’t mean they are ready to use them against brewing dark forces. Neither are they prepared to fall in love, but they best get ready as both magic and love stalks into their lives. The first two books were my favorite even though I adore Mia as a character. Mia spotlights in the third book but by then the fantasy aspect of the series neared conclusion. As a device in the first two books the curse was great, but the lead up to the climax was the achilles heel of the trilogy. Renowned romance author Nora Romance does a great job with the relationships, love, sex, friendship and warm fuzzies. I was pleasantly surprised by her depiction of witches and found it to be a nice balance between fantasy and realism. She writes some great rhyming spells and her scenes of witchcraft are well written. Magic has impressive effects but doesn’t seem too powerful. For a beach or comfort read, dig into the books. Just don’t expect a masterful wrap-up to the island curse plot. I found myself skimming the parts about the curse in the midst of book three, just waiting to see how the romance would end. This book supports the message that all ladies can be powerful goddesses. And that I will always be willing to read.

There are only two other guests: Dana Steele, a librarian, and Zoe McCourt, a single mother. On the surface, it seems the women have nothing in common, until their mysterious hosts tell them a story—and offer them a challenge.

However, they must also contend with the malicious spirits that haunt the house. As their relationship develops, they uncover dark secrets from the past that threaten their happiness. Finally, "Red Lily" centers around Hayley Phillips, who has recently inherited her grandmother's antique shop. She forms a bond with Harper House and its residents, Roz and Mitch. Meanwhile, she starts a romantic relationship with the local sheriff, who has a connection to the supernatural world. Together, they must unravel the mystery behind the dangerous ghost known as the Red Lily. Throughout the trilogy, Nora Roberts skillfully weaves together elements of romance, mystery, and the occult. The characters' journeys of self-discovery and their interactions with the supernatural world create a compelling narrative. Roberts's vivid descriptions bring the settings to life and her ability to develop complex characters makes the story engaging. The trilogy is a captivating blend of the paranormal and the everyday, showcasing Roberts's talent for storytelling..

Reviews for "The Healing Power of Love: Nora Roberts' Hopeful Occult Trilogy"

1. Emma - 1/5 stars: I was really disappointed with "The occult trilogy" by Nora Roberts. The plot felt very predictable and unoriginal, and the characters lacked depth and development. It seemed as though Roberts just recycled typical paranormal tropes without adding anything new or exciting. I couldn't connect with any of the characters, and their relationships felt forced and shallow. Overall, I found the trilogy to be a tedious read and wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a fresh and captivating supernatural story.
2. Mark - 2/5 stars: As a fan of Nora Roberts' other works, I had high expectations for "The occult trilogy." However, I found it to be overly melodramatic and lacking in substance. The pacing was inconsistent, with long periods of slow-moving plot followed by rushed and unsatisfying resolutions. Additionally, the writing style felt repetitive and the dialogue sounded forced. While I appreciate Roberts' attempt to delve into the occult world, I felt that it was poorly executed and left me feeling underwhelmed. Unfortunately, I can't say that I enjoyed this trilogy as much as I hoped I would.
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars: I picked up "The occult trilogy" expecting an engaging and suspenseful read, but was left disappointed. The plot was riddled with cliches and felt overly formulaic. The characters lacked complexity and felt like two-dimensional caricatures. The romantic relationships were also uninspiring and lacked chemistry. The writing style itself was mediocre, with clunky phrasing and excessive exposition. I was hoping for a gripping supernatural tale, but instead found myself bored and uninterested. I wouldn't recommend this trilogy to anyone seeking a truly captivating occult tale.
4. Michael - 1/5 stars: I am usually a big fan of Nora Roberts, but "The occult trilogy" left me extremely dissatisfied. The plot felt disjointed and lacked a clear direction, making it difficult to become invested in the story. The characters were forgettable and their motivations were unclear. The romantic elements were forced, and it felt like Roberts was simply ticking off a checklist rather than developing genuine connections. Overall, I found this trilogy to be a confusing and underwhelming read that failed to live up to Roberts' usual standards.
