The legal implications of the Ole Miss mascot: trademark and copyright issues

"Ol’ Miss Mascot" The University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss, has a rich history and tradition when it comes to their mascot. The official mascot of Ole Miss is the Rebel Black Bear, but this was not always the case. For many years, the university's mascot was a white man named "Colonel Reb." He was a caricature of a Southern gentleman, complete with a white beard, top hat, and cane. However, in recent years, there has been a push to replace Colonel Reb due to its association with slave-owning and racist history. In 2010, the university introduced a new on-field mascot, the Rebel Black Bear, which was chosen through a student-led process.

Then, there are Southern endearments, those pet names we use to refer to loved ones. Plain old “dear” won’t cut it. For pet names to be true Southern endearments, they need a little pizazz. A little whimsy. Some downright silliness. Like “sweetie,” “honey bun,” or “sugar.”

The bones beneath visitors feet belong to governors, musicians, statesmen, soldiers, poets, women whose identities fade beneath stones that are marked wife of, and children who left the world too soon. We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Magic Bear Beer Cellar in our Millrace Commons building adding to the growing entrepreneurial retail community in the Larkin District, said Larkin Development Group s Kayla Zemsky.

New Fisher-Price line of toys allows kids to 'work' from home, just like mom and dad

It's not only an unprecedented time for parents who are working from home, it's a little strange for the kids, too, who may not be accustomed to so much time with adults. Fisher-Price took this new level of family togetherness into consideration and designed a new line of toys that allow children to mimic adult activities.

The hope is that they will entertain children and adults, said Chuck Scothon in a press release from Fisher-Price. "We are unveiling a new lineup of 'mini-me' and role-play items that turn every day grown-up activities into, well, toys," Scothorn wrote. "This collection features a number of actions that kids are seeing the adults in their lives do now more than ever."

The various play sets include a home officer set, a home "workout" set and a kitchen play set.

The Home Office Set "features a laptop with four fabric 'apps,' a smartphone, a headset for calls and, of course, a coffee cup." Order it for $24.99 at buybuybaby.com here, or preorder it on Amazon here.

The Baby Biceps set comes with gym-themed toys so that children can do home workouts just like mom and dad. Buy it for $14.99 from Target.

The Cutest Chef set lets children pretend to help in the kitchen. It includes "a crinkle recipe card, play tongs with a meatball spinner, a chewy oven mitt teether and a wearable chef's apron bib." Buy it for $14.99 on Amazon.

The company also recently released a Tiny Tourist set for families who are having stay-cations during the pandemic. Order it for $11.53 on Amazon.

Ol miss masvot

The introduction of the Rebel Black Bear was not without controversy, as there were some who felt that it did not adequately represent the university's history and traditions. However, over time, the black bear mascot has become more widely accepted and embraced by the Ole Miss community. Today, the Rebel Black Bear can be seen at Ole Miss sporting events, cheering on the team and entertaining the crowd. It has become a symbol of unity and pride for the university, bringing people together regardless of their background or beliefs. While the transition from Colonel Reb to the Rebel Black Bear was not without its challenges, it represents the university's commitment to inclusivity and progress. The mascot may have changed, but the spirit and dedication of Ole Miss remain the same..
