Can This Really Be Magic? The Seagulls When we think of magic, we often envision wizards, wands, and spells. However, there is a type of magic that exists in the natural world - the magic of the seagulls. Seagulls are commonly found near bodies of water, particularly in coastal regions. They have become a familiar sight to beachgoers and fishermen alike. But have you ever stopped to truly appreciate the marvel of these seabirds? One of the most enchanting aspects of seagulls is their ability to fly effortlessly in the air. Their wings span wide, allowing them to glide gracefully across the sky.

Waverly here, your Patch NYC Kids' Mayor!

Halloween has just passed, and now taking its place we have the start of a new holiday season, leaving all the witches and ghosts and goblins behind. They’re already a distant memory, with eerie music and spooky decorations being immediately replaced by the jolly sounds and festive sights of “the most wonderful time of the year.”

However, there is one “witchy” thing that remains, and it is an important one. In fact, it’s been important for over 300 years. Most of us are familiar with the story - in 1692 in Colonial Massachusetts, more than 200 innocent people were accused of practicing witchcraft, and 25 were executed, mainly women. What we rarely think about, though, in this “story,” is that it actually happened, and it’s not just a long ago tale about false accusations and a story to tell around Halloween. These were real people, real lives that were lost, and the way it happened is not so far off from being able to happen again, even in America in 2022.

Another captivating element of seagulls is their keen sense of observation. They seem to always be aware of their surroundings, whether it's spotting a school of fish beneath the surface or detecting a potential food source near the shore. This attribute gives them an almost mystical quality, as if they possess a sixth sense. Seagulls also have a unique connection to humans. They have adapted to thrive in urban areas, often scavenging for food in bustling city centers. This ability to coexist with humans, despite the loss of their natural habitats, is truly remarkable. It reminds us that even in the midst of chaos, there can be harmony. **In conclusion, seagulls possess a kind of magic that is not found in the pages of a fairy tale, but in the everyday world. From their graceful flight to their keen observation and ability to adapt, the seagull's presence is a constant reminder of the wonders that exist in nature. So the next time you see a seagull gliding through the air, take a moment to appreciate the magic that surrounds us.**.
