The Art of Spellcraft: Displaying Magical Items in Your Living Room

By admin

The witches living room is a space shrouded in mystery and enchantment. As one enters this room, they are immediately transported into a world of magic and sorcery. The air is thick with a potent mixture of herbs and incense, creating a sense of otherworldliness. The walls are adorned with intricate tapestries, depicting ancient spells and mystical creatures. In one corner of the room, a large cauldron sits atop a crackling fire, bubbling with mysterious concoctions. The room is filled with shelves lined with jars and bottles, each containing various herbs, spices, and potions.

A witch lives here! How to transform your living room for Halloween

I love picking new spooky Halloween themes to decorate with every year. This Halloween, I decided to go with the dusty, spice-filled and a bit creepy feeling of walking into a witches house.

To accomplish this, there are many avenues you could go down. You’re imagination is really the limit when trying to re-create a feeling or scene.

Begin with picturing a scary movie in which a witch welcomed people into her home. What did you see in the background? What kind of furniture and accessories did she have? Was it clean, dirty or inviting?

For me, I envision a cold room with a giant cauldron, smoking in the background. I see cob webs and potions strewn about. Perhaps there are some dried herbs for spells and a broom stick against a wall. Maybe some preserved animal pieces in jars as well…

Here are a few things I did to create an abandoned witches home. This is really quick and easy and most everything I used was from around the house or a thrift store.

To set the scene, I first covered up my bright furniture with sheets, simply because I doubt a witch would own an orange patterned chair and matching flower paintings. I removed my bright throw pillows and my red curtains and replaced them with a black shear curtain panel instead.

As for the decorating, the most important thing is the cauldron. There are many cheap plastic ones at thrift stores and even Amazon. I had an old cast iron one in our garage that was for camping, that fit the look perfectly. If budget is not an issue, than check this one out. On the night of Halloween, or whenever you are feeling festive, you can add dry ice and a colored light to the pot to give it an extra creepy feel. I also found these bowl steamers that you could try if you are not into the dry ice hassle.

Next, gather pretty bottles and spice jars to make an area for potion ingredients. I found many bottles at Goodwill. Here is a set of neat shaped ones you could use as well. For some of these bottles, I spray painted them to keep them looking a little more cohesive. I then found some bottle label transfers and added them to the bottles. To put them on, you simply place them facedown on the bottle and rub the back side with a wet washcloth. When you remove the paper, the label transfers over to the bottle. (Like a temporary tattoo)

You could also add a bunch of garlic or some corn husks to this area. Really anything that will enhance the feeling of potions and spells. A giant “book of spells” or “book of the dead” would be an amazing touch!

Next, place any witchy accessories throughout your room. I had an old wooden broom that I simply placed against the wall. Also, and witches’ hats or wands could be strategically placed throughout the area. Maybe some fancy goblets for drinking their spells… I added some heads in jars to make the room just a little more spooky. See the tutorial here.
