Vintage 2017 proved to be one of those seasons that tests the mettle of both the winegrowing team and the vines. The exuberance of early spring was briefly disrupted by hailstorms, followed by heat waves that bracketed the summer months, elevating ripeness in the fruit. Despite these events, we took a calculated risk by waiting. Decades spent working these lands had encouraged us to exercise restraint, allowing the vines—even the young ones—to rely, wherever possible, on their own accumulated wisdom. Discipline rewarded us: as temperatures normalized, sugars rebalanced, acidity held, and harvest began not long thereafter. We are particularly fortunate to have produced The Mascot from fruit brought in before wildfires began in autumn. These adversities seem to have heightened the character of the wine, which emerged from the challenges with purity and poise—a testament to the pedigree of the sites themselves. The growing season’s relative warmth is absent in the glass, replaced by freshness and a piquant tension. The nose draws forward notes of red fruit and elements—earth, warm spice, leather—often deferred to the finish. Lithesome tannins and vibrant acidity attend a crystalline structure that is finely wrought and radiantly transparent. 4200 cases. 14.5% alc.

We work with many small-production wines which, if not in stock may need to be acquired direct from the winery and may not be available for shipping for several days after your order is placed. The Mascot began early on as an experiment, after talking the family and winemaking team into sparing a few barrels of wine produced from our younger vines to explore a blend of my own.

The Mascot is one of the newer wine labels from the famed Harlan family, but this time. it's the younger Will Harlan! Although Will Harlan grew up running around the winery, hand-turning de-stemmers, and eating grapes off the vines in his family's backyard, he never quite thought he'd become a winemaker. About The Winery

Cleo Pahlmeyer, daughter of Napa Valley's Jayson Pahlmeyer, came up with the idea to produce a stand-alone brand from the Wayfarer Vineyard on the Sonoma coast in 2012. According to the St. Helena Star, "then-Pahlmeyer winemaker Helen Turley had called the property the destined 'La Tache of California,' referring to the blessed grand cru in Burgundy." Pahlmeyer teamed up with winemaker Bibiana González Rave, formerly of Lynmar, on this project.

- John - 2/5 stars - I found "The Mascot 2017" to be a disappointment. The plot was weak, and the characters felt very one-dimensional. The humor fell flat for me, and I didn't find myself laughing at all. Overall, it felt like a wasted opportunity for a potentially funny and engaging film.
- Sarah - 1/5 stars - "The Mascot 2017" was downright awful. The acting was terrible, and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The story was incredibly boring and predictable. I found myself counting down the minutes until it was over. Save yourself the time and skip this one.

The jokes were forced, and it felt like the actors were trying too hard to be funny. The plot was disjointed and lacked coherence. Overall, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on this film.
- Emma - 2/5 stars - "The Mascot 2017" had its moments, but overall, it fell flat for me. The concept had potential, but the execution was lacking. The pacing was off, and the characters didn't have much depth. I found myself losing interest as the film progressed. It's a mediocre comedy at best.
