OREM — An Orem man who police say had hundreds of disturbing images of child pornography was charged Monday.

Ryan Didier, 29, of Orem, was charged in 2nd District Court with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.

The investigation began in January when police intercepted files being downloaded that contained disturbing child pornography images, according to charging documents.

On Feb. 12, police served a search warrant on the residence, which was being rented by multiple people.

“Because there were multiple residents who all denied possessing or viewing child pornography, police seized 52 items of electronics for further investigation. They searched all 52 items and found the torrent file with the same hash value they used to begin the investigation on a computer belonging to Ryan Didier,” the charges state.

Investigators also looked at Didier’s internet browser history and found terms aimed at images of children, according to charging documents.

“Mr. Didier’s phone did have messages from his mother and an ex-girlfriend in which they discussed his problems with pornography, and in which his mother confronted him about potential issues with child pornography based on her finding search terms like ‘pre-teen nudes’ on her computer,” the charges state.
