Because the rod is a two handed weapon, if you decide to hook an opponent, you cannot cast spells or switch weapons without dropping the rod first. If you are not holding the rod whilst a creature is hooked they instantly succeed on any checks made to escape the hooked condition. If a creature is moved out of your fishing line's range without using moves that require mobility whilst hooked they instantly escape the hooked condition. (blast from thunderwave, teleportation, telekensis etc)
If a target escapes this way the fishing line is broken, and can only be repaired by spending a minute to fix it by a fishing expert, or alternatively one use of the mending spell. Wind it three or four times then stop mid way on the palm, hold the cord there with your left ring finger and wind the cord BACK, letting it hang down off the back of the hand.

Hi
I remember several years ago, a post on how to break string without
using a knife or scissors.
It is seemingly a fishing trick (not in the magical sense).
All I can remember is that you wrap the string around a finger or
thumb, and use the string to cut through itself quite easily.
I can't seem to find this through searching.
Can anyone remember how this is done, or if there is an internet site
explaining it?
