The Worst Witch prepares to become the best driver as actress swaps her broomstick for four wheels

16-year old TV star Megan Hughes takes to the wheel with Young Driver

She may have taken her Broomstick Proficiency Test prior to starting at Miss Cackle's Academy, but Megan Hughes, the actress who plays Maud Spellbody in TV’s The Worst Witch, now has her eyes firmly set on a different mode of transportation.

Megan, who is 16 and lives in Oxfordshire, has started learning to drive with pre-17 driving school Young Driver. As the UK’s largest driving school for under 17s, Young Driver teaches youngsters from the age of 10 how to safely handle a car, teaching them on specially created road systems at private property with fully qualified instructors.

Megan has appeared in three series of The Worst Witch since 2017, which is a CBBC and Netflix adaptation of the books written by Jill Murphy. The show focuses on Mildred Hubble and her best friend Maud who attend Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches, a school of magic.

Having had several lessons at the scheme’s Newbury and Bicester venues, Megan has been learning how to steer, change gear, brake, park and perform manoeuvres behind the wheel of a dual-controlled Vauxhall Corsa. Young Driver has delivered over 950,000 lessons at more than 70 private venues since it launched in 2009. Research shows that if teens extend their driver education and start learning at an earlier age they are far less likely to have an accident when they do go on to pass their test.

Megan, who has become a young ambassador for Young Driver, commented: “I was quite nervous before my first lesson, but the instructors helped me to prepare and relax. It is so much fun! I love the parking and reversing and the figure of eights. After every lesson, I can’t wait for my next one to see what I will be learning! I think Young Driver is a great scheme, and I particularly like the way it ensures driving is a skill accessible for all. Personally, I know this will really help when it comes to learning to drive on the road and will help me become a safer driver, which is reassuring to me and my family. I’m not sure what Maud would make of learning to drive but I reckon she’d probably be quite good at it – or at least she could whip up a potion to help!”

Sue Waterfield, head of marketing at Young Driver, said: “Megan is doing brilliantly! Her character Maud may be happier on top of a broomstick, but Megan is definitely at home with four wheels firmly on the ground! I know she has several more lessons booked in with us over the next few months, so by the time she reaches 17 she’ll already be confident behind the wheel and understand the mechanics of how to drive. She can then use her on the road lessons to get to grips with things like other traffic and more complicated road systems. It’s the perfect spell for success!”

Notes to editors:
Young Driver was established in 2009 with the aim of helping to teach youngsters to drive over a longer period, therefore encouraging a safer generation of new drivers at 17. The scheme is sponsored by Vauxhall and is the only driving school in the UK to offer carbon negative driving lessons.

Anyone aged 10 and over and above 1.42 metres tall can get behind the wheel of a brand new dual controlled Vauxhall Corsa SE Premium car with a fully qualified ADI driving instructor. Lessons take place on private property which has been developed into a realistic road system complete with road signs, junctions and car parks. A free Drive Diary helps each pupil to monitor progress. More than 900,000 lessons have now been delivered and there are more than 70 venues to choose from across the UK.

All Drive Diaries and leaflets are printed on carbon capture paper and Young Driver’s office only uses Woodland Trust FSC paper. The Drive Diary is also available as part of the Young Driver App, which offers virtual driving lessons via unique 360° videos - taking learners from first lessons to test.

Young Driver Motor Cars Ltd, a subsidiary of Young Driver, launched Firefly, the world’s first electric cars developed specially for 5-10 year olds, in September 2016. These cars are available to drive throughout the year at selected venues.

Driving experiences for 10-17s (and adults) are also available in three classic cars - a Vauxhall VX490, Morris Minor or Austin 7, along with a genuine ex-service fire engine.

Ayana was said to be the creator of Esther's Talisman, allowing Esther to focus her powers, making Esther more able to direct her energy. Given that she seemed to be regarding the Spirits, she most likely would have also taught Esther Spirit Magic, as Esther used it when she returned to life.

Reviews for "Little Tikes Workshop Opening: A Place of Enchantment for Kids"

1. Jennifer - 1/5 stars - I was really disappointed with the Little Tikes Magic Workshop Opening. The tricks were so basic and poorly executed that they looked more like child's play than actual magic. The acting was also subpar, making the whole experience underwhelming. I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone looking for quality magic entertainment.
2. David - 2/5 stars - The Little Tikes Magic Workshop Opening left a lot to be desired. The tricks were predictable and lacked any real wow-factor. The performers seemed inexperienced and their delivery fell flat. It felt like they were just going through the motions without any real passion or skill. Overall, it was a forgettable and unimpressive event.
3. Emily - 1/5 stars - I attended the Little Tikes Magic Workshop Opening with my children, and we were very disappointed. The tricks were poorly explained, making it hard for young kids to follow along. The performers were unengaging and seemed disinterested in the audience. It was a lackluster show that failed to capture the attention and excitement of its intended audience.
4. Michael - 2/5 stars - The Little Tikes Magic Workshop Opening fell short of my expectations. The tricks were basic and lacked any real complexity. The show lacked a sense of cohesion, as it felt like a jumble of unrelated tricks rather than a well-structured performance. I was hoping for a more magical and immersive experience, but unfortunately, it failed to deliver.
