I recently attended a Halloween party where I decided to dress up as a witch. I had always been fascinated by the world of witches and their mystical powers, so it felt like the perfect choice for a costume. Unfortunately, I ran into a bit of a dilemma when it came to putting together my outfit. I rummaged through my closet for anything that resembled a witch costume but could only find a few random pieces that didn't quite match. I had a long black dress that could pass as a witch's gown, but it had a floral pattern on it, which was definitely not spooky enough. I also found a black pointed hat that was slightly too big for my head.

I also found a black pointed hat that was slightly too big for my head. The hat had a bright purple ribbon tied around it, which clashed with the rest of the outfit. To top it off, I found a broomstick in my garage, but it was old and worn out.

How To Crochet a Magic Ring (Magic Circle) Photo & Video Tutorial

Let’s face it. The magic ring (aka magic circle) is one of the most frustrating techniques to learn. But boy, is it a necessary skill! Today I’m going to share a photo and video tutorial showing how to crochet a magic ring. But I’m also going to share TWO alternatives to the magic ring. I’ll explain why later.

It will take some practice, but once you get the hang of the magic ring, it’s even easier to do than two alternatives I’ll share at the end of this post.

When it comes to crocheting in the round, there are two ways to start your project. You can start with a foundation chain (usually 2-4 chains depending on the stitch) or you can start with the magic circle, also know as a magic loop or an adjustable loop.

First, we’ll cover why starting with a magic circle is better than using a starting chain. Then we will go over how to crochet the magic circle (also known as the magic loop).

The bristles were coming off, and the handle had a few cracks in it. It definitely didn't look like the sleek and polished broomsticks I had envisioned. Despite the mismatched pieces, I decided to embrace the uniqueness of my costume. I figured that as a witch, I could embrace the creative chaos and make it work. I added a few accessories to tie the costume together. I found a fake spiderweb and some plastic spiders, which I used to decorate my hat and dress. I also found an old potion bottle that I filled with colored water and attached to my belt. When I arrived at the party, I was surprised to receive many compliments on my costume. People loved the unexpected and unconventional elements that I had incorporated. They admired my ability to turn mismatched pieces into a cohesive and eye-catching outfit. This experience taught me that sometimes, embracing imperfections and thinking outside the box can lead to the most memorable and unique results. It's important to have fun with costumes and not take them too seriously. After all, Halloween is a time for creativity, imagination, and embracing our inner witches..
