Going on an interview and worried that you’ll have to remove your beloved facial hair? Not sure what to do? Here’s what you do – confirm if there is just cause to shave it. And if you deem that cause does exist, you’ll have to make a decision. Do research on LinkedIn and see if any of the employees at the prospective employer have facial hair. If you are really unsure, you can ask Human Resources about the company’s grooming policy during the phone screen too – there’s nothing wrong with that. Companies may have a grooming policy that doesn’t permit facial hair, and if that does indeed turn out to be the case, you’ll have to oblige should you want to move forward in the process.

Several years later, I ve come to realize that it s a rare day if I don t interact with at least one professional person that doesn t have a beard facial hair. However, in this case, since your former manager had contacted people there on your behalf, it does make sense to let them know that you ve accepted another job.

Consultant beard spell pants

Many shirts feature illustrations of witches, black cats, broomsticks, or other symbols associated with witchcraft. Some shirts even include slogans like "I survived the Salem witch trials" or "Witch and proud." These shirts can be found in various shops throughout Salem, particularly in the downtown area and near popular attractions such as the Witch Trials Memorial and the Salem Witch Museum.

To Beard or Not To Beard

The title is a little deceiving, especially if it’s taken to mean that one can expect a balanced pro’s vs. con’s exposition on the subject. For this writer, the conclusion is clear: I choose to beard. I can’t imagine my life without a beard at this point. It’s a part of who I am. Maybe you feel the same way? Maybe you want a beard, but have always held back out of fear of it not being kosher with the workplace or an expected standard of decorum. A beard is not absolutely unprofessional. In fact, a beard can enhance one’s professionalism (something clean and well-kept usually doesn't seem unprofessional). As with many things, the key is to know your audience and your company’s policy. But before we can get into that, it behooves one to know the spirit of this perspective.

I remember being a fresh-faced, beard-free new consultant making visits to stern, haughty organizations at which beards were infrequently noticed, if noticed at all. My clients were traditional alternative investment institutions, including private equity firms and hedge funds. Luckily, back then I didn’t have any inclination of wanting to have facial hair; otherwise, I would have been disappointed because my sense at the time was that it was forbidden. Plus, as the new guy, I certainly wasn't trying to be too disruptive. My perspective began to change when, during a meeting with several client contacts, I noticed one gentleman that did have a well-maintained, well-groomed business beard. As I think back on it now, it probably planted the idea of a beard in my mind. It accommodated the environment while also serving him: it was masculine and professional.

Several years later, I’ve come to realize that it’s a rare day if I don’t interact with at least one professional person that doesn’t have a beard/facial hair. Clean and well-maintained is the recipe for facial hair at work. A friend of mine, and fellow beardsman, who works for a top law firm in Manhattan was told during his internship that the company loves beards. Another close friend of mine, who is an executive with a mid-sized energy company in the Midwest, tells me that facial hair is practically the norm. Folks, facial hair is more common in today’s workplace.

In the meantime, beard on.
