Mastering Weapon Potency Runes: Tips and Tricks for Pathfinder Second Edition

By admin

A weapon potency rune in Pathfinder 2e is a special enchantment that can be added to a weapon to increase its power and effectiveness in combat. This rune is commonly used by adventurers and warriors to enhance their weapons and gain an edge in battle. The potency rune provides a baseline increase in damage for the weapon, making it more deadly and able to deal more harm to enemies. It essentially imbues the weapon with magical energy, allowing it to bypass certain resistances and defenses of opponents. This makes it particularly useful against creatures that may be resistant to non-magical attacks. To apply a weapon potency rune, a character must be able to cast spells or have the help of someone who can.

The process involves inscribing magical symbols and runes onto the weapon, channeling arcane energy into it. This imbues the weapon with the desired potency and grants it the additional benefits.

Can I have just a striking weapon (or resilient armor)?

I've never seen anything in published material do so, which makes me think I'm wrong, but can I have a weapon that is simply a striking weapon? No +1 potency rune? Could I even go so far as to have a major striking Greataxe that lacks any other runes? (The answer presumably would apply to resilient armor runes as well, though I'd be interested if there's a divergence). Inspired by this question - I almost instinctively corrected the questioner that a "+1 striking weapon is 100gp", but then realized that maybe they don't even need the +1 potency rune and therefore could get by with just the striking rune.

The strength of the potency rune determines the magnitude of the increase in the weapon's power. There are multiple levels of potency, ranging from +1 to +5, with each level providing a greater boost to damage and effectiveness. Characters can upgrade their weapon potency runes as they gain more experience and become more proficient in their craft. One important aspect to note is that potency runes can only be applied to weapons that have an item level equal to or greater than the potency level being added. This means that characters must find or craft weapons of sufficient quality to accommodate higher levels of potency. In addition to increased damage, weapon potency runes can also grant additional effects and abilities to the weapon. For example, a weapon with a potency rune of +2 might also gain the ability to bypass a certain type of damage resistance, making it more effective against specific enemies or types of armor. Overall, a weapon potency rune is a valuable tool in a character's arsenal, allowing them to increase the power and versatility of their weapon. It provides a tangible boost to combat effectiveness and can make a significant difference in battle. Adventurers and warriors would do well to seek out or craft weapons with potency runes to gain an edge against powerful foes..

1. Amanda - 2/5 stars - I was really disappointed with the Weapon Potency Rune in Pathfinder 2e. I was expecting a significant boost in my weapon's power, but it ended up feeling lackluster. The bonus damage it provided was negligible, and it didn't feel worth the investment. I was hoping for a more impactful upgrade to my weapon, but unfortunately, this rune fell short.
2. John - 1/5 stars - The Weapon Potency Rune in Pathfinder 2e was a complete waste of time and resources. It offered such a minuscule increase in damage that I barely noticed any difference in my combat effectiveness. I would have been better off investing in other runes or abilities that actually made a noticeable impact. Overall, this rune felt like a missed opportunity to enhance my weapon's potential.
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I found the Weapon Potency Rune in Pathfinder 2e to be underwhelming. The additional damage it provided was okay, but nothing exceptional. I was hoping for a rune that would truly make my weapon stand out and give me an edge in battles, but unfortunately, this rune didn't meet my expectations. I would recommend exploring other options or investing in more impactful runes to enhance your weapon's potency.
