The Wagsters Magic Theatre Celebrating First Anniversary

JAMES CITY-The Wagsters Magic Theatre opened its doors for the first time last summer to a nearly sold-out house. Now, one year later, owners Brandon and Hannah Wagster have welcomed more than 10,000 guests and performed more than 200 shows. The couple brought their award-winning magic show to Williamsburg after moving to the Historic Triangle in the spring of 2022.

The threatre is located at 5535 Olde Towne Rd., which was the previous location of Calvary Chapel Williamsburg. The couple remodeled the space and transformed it into a state-of-the-art theatre to showcase the husband-and-wife team’s world-class show. Their family-friendly Vegas-style magic shows offer spectacular illusions, sleight of hand maneuvers, mind reading capabilities, and daring escapes that are coupled with heartfelt stories throughout performances.

An intimate setting with only 75 seats, The Wagsters Magic Theatre offers guests the opportunity to witness magic up close and personal. The couple is performing a new show entitled “Finding Magic,” with tickets available beginning Thursday, June 15.

The dream of starting his own magic theatre took more than two decades to become a reality for Brandon Wagster. Some of the magician’s most joyful childhood memories consist of hanging bed sheets up in the garage and using his dad’s work lights to create his own stage at home to perform magic shows, plays, and a circus.

Before landing in Williamsburg, the Wagsters performed thousands of live shows in their home state of South Carolina, eventually gaining notoriety from the International Magicians Society, who awarded them the “Merlin Award” in 2020, which is magic’s equivalent to the Oscar, Tony, Emmy, and Grammy.

A year since relocating to Virginia’s Historic Triangle, the Wagsters plan to continue growing deep roots in Williamsburg, raise a family, and spend the rest of their careers in the community.

“We are so blessed that so many locals and visitors have loved what we do, and we hope they will continue to come back again and again,” said Hannah Wagster in a prepared statement.

Shows will be offered six nights a week all summer long and will continue on select dates through the fall until November, when they will bring back their Christmas Production through December 31.

“Our Christmas season last year was completely sold out, so we are starting a bit earlier this year, and I am currently working on a new ‘Close Up Magic’ show that will premiere this fall,” said Brandon Wagster. “It’s very different from what our guests will have seen in the past.”

The Wagsters Magic Theatre was recently voted Best Place To Take Out of Towners, Best New Business, and Best Family Friendly Attraction by Coastal Virginia Magazine.

The performers lacked charisma and stage presence, which made the show feel dull and unengaging. The overall production value was also quite low, with outdated props and cheesy costumes. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money on this show.
