In a small village on the outskirts of town, there stood a house that was believed to be inhabited by a witch and her familiar, a mysterious black cat. Locals whispered stories about the peculiar happenings surrounding the house, spreading tales of magic and enchantment. The house itself was an old, dilapidated structure with a crooked roof and peeling paint. Its windows were opaque, revealing no hint of what lay inside. Overgrown vines crawled up the walls, giving the house an eerie appearance. Legend had it that the witch, known as Madame Esmeralda, had lived in the house for centuries.

Every scene that exists within the film, even before it becomes a horror narrative, suggests no sort of linear composition and has the viewer perked up in anticipation and at some points dread of what will occur next, and in my mind that is a major necessity in a horror film. I often place House on as many top ten lists as I can because quite frankly it is one of the few films I could countlessly revisit, as well as something that I feel required to share with the rest of the world.
