The Shades of Magic Chronicles is a fantasy book series written by V.E. Schwab. The series consists of three books: "A Darker Shade of Magic," "A Gathering of Shadows," and "A Conjuring of Light." Set in different alternate versions of London, the story follows Kell Maresh, a rare magician capable of traveling between the parallel universes. The main idea of the series is the exploration of multiple parallel universes and the concept of different versions of London.

The main idea of the series is the exploration of multiple parallel universes and the concept of different versions of London. In this world, there are four Londons: Grey London, a magic-less city ruled by a mad king; Red London, a thriving and magical city where Kell is from; White London, a brutal and power-hungry city; and Black London, a city consumed by dark magic and closed off from the others. Kell, as an Antari, is able to wield blood magic and travel between these Londons.

The pacing was also uneven, with long stretches of nothing happening followed by rushed and unsatisfying resolutions. Overall, I found the series to be underwhelming and not worth the hype.
