The Casagrandes: Season 1: Episode 21: Cursed ! ( Plus a Season Review)

It\’s the season finale episode of a show that will have at least three seasons.

Episode 21: Cursed!

Sergio has a new camera but that\’s not important, that astrologer guy Ernesto, is back and he\’s coming to Great Lakes City and Rosa wants to meet him. The family follows her because they want food. Also Lincoln shows up by phone, that\’s important for later. Anyway, we find out that Ernesto isn\’t able to show up because the city is bad luck now. (what?) This drives the plot of the episode, where Rosa takes it hard and decides to go weird. She does stuff to get rid of bad luck and imagines that Ernesto is telling her things and restricts her family from doing stuff because reasons. (Alright, Rosa, it\’s time to go)

Ronnie Annie decides to bring back the Sergio has a camera thing, to make what I said earlier, a complete lie! The idea is to make a video to show how great and unlucky the city is. Now, Sergio decides that he doesn\’t want his film to be boring and causes chaos. It destroys the objective of the movie. Poor Bobby gets beaten up a lot this episode, poor guy.

Anyway this gives Rosa the logical conclusion that the family should move away. (Someone could say No, or something but noooo) Lori thinks a good idea is to have them come and stay with her family. (Screw logic!) Rita and Lynn Loud are a little more like, no. (They are sane ) The idea of having 25 people in the same small house is a little much. (Call the fire department, to shut this place down) But because of course, they show up Lori was begging her parents.

There is no conflict of the two families trying to mash together, it\’s mostly the Casagrande/ Santagios really not enjoying their time there and missing being at home. Thanks to Lisa, they get the idea to make it seem like there\’s bad luck there as well and convince Rosa to go back home. They salt the pancakes, mess up clothes, and flood places.

Rosa thinks the logical step is to move to the woods. (Instead of leaving the silly woman to her delusions) Good thing Ernesto is at Flip\’s and he was lying about the city being cursed because of a pimple. Ronnie Anne threatens him and he finds away to \”cleanse\” them of the cursed. It gets all colorful and junk. Anyway all is well or something.

It has been shown before that Rosa takes superstition seriously and really listens to Ernesto. Her decisions were kind of grating to make the plot work. Her decisions are placed on the idea she\’s worried for her family but doesn\’t take into consideration that her decisions are affecting her family. I can understand a little cartoon logic and take that into account, but there\’s still something slightly grating about that.

I did think Sergio was doing something as an effect in this episode, I thought the first minute was setting that up, but he was mostly background here, so that was a nice little trick. The crossover part was nice to see, Like the Loudest Thanksgiving, it\’s hard to dynamic in 25 characters (funny Arturo was out of this episode too!) So it is at least nice to get some quick hit interactions. I\’m glad it wasn\’t an episode where the two families ended up fighting or on each other\’s nerves.

There are some good hints to what made Ernesto do so what he did, because when you re watch you\’ll notice the hat when he normally wasn\’t wearing one. This is good episode I di d have fun, the art work for the cleansing is awesome it\’s pretty enough to eat. (what?) I give it 8/10.

more after the jump

This ends the first season of The Casagrandes. The idea of the series did seem to be formulating during season 2 of \”The Loud House\” and eventually they took the plunge of putting Ronnie Anne into this larger family. It was intersting since we didn\’t see much of her in the series in the first place and were getting to know her as a character they took that jump. Eventually announcing a spin off series.

Spin offs are hard to pull off more than many people think they would, because you really want a show that can stand on it\’s own ,and not have to rely on it\’s parent series for a crutch. It is funny that it ends the first season with a crossover. This series does like to inter connect with its parent series so much, part of season 4 of the Loud House was given to \”The Casagrandes\” where they even introduced Sid.

I think they gave Ronnie Anne some good characterization, her characterization before \”Relative Chaos\” was very much unsettled versus what they did for the idea of the spin off. They did give Ronnie Anne some friends during a season 3 episode of TLH but, Sid was a nice addition to be main \”best friend\” because she contrast and compliments Ronnie Anne well, her personality was well developed and they added a character to TLH world that didn\’t feel forced into the show. They found a way to add Ronnie Anne\’s other friends, fairly well, and even Laird, a new character works in alright.

It is nice to see the family dynamic, this is a series about an extended family living together and their dynamics. One thing I mentioned before in a Loud House post was that we didn\’t get to see much of Ronnie Anne, Bobby, and their mother as a family without the extended part. I really wish we did, just because I think it would have been an interesting way to get to know her character. (To be honest, the show is weird with non Loud/ Clyde characters anyway, it\’s a surprise they even thought to do more with her in the first place)

The Bobby development was great, they made him such a fun character with his own drive like he wants to be in business. He is caring for his family , as was hinted before he moved to the Casagrandes, but now, he\’s not finding different jobs, and can be with family more. The series does have be used as a slight butt monkey, though.

My favorite episodes from this season were

This episode really got to me, it wasn\’t even that dramatic but I felt bad for Ronnie and Sid just because they wouldn\’t be able to spend time with each other in a club. It\’s a sweet episode and really does a job of making me feel like these two were friends for years and their friendship is sweet.

2. The Horror-Scope

I do think the show should try and focus on it\’s characters and not try to bring up things from the parent series too much, only to sprinkle them in when necessary for a little fun, but this episode was fun and I like seeing Lincoln meet Sid.

3. Arrgh in the Family

This episode has an energy to it , I loved Ronnie Anne\’s devotion to her cousin and just wanting him to be able to go up and be pirate once was sweet.

It\’s fun episode and Halloween at the same time. There\’s something fun about the atmosphere That I really enjoyed. Sid and Ronnie Anne being awkward was cute and the episode brought me some joy.

5.What\’s Love Gatto Do with it

I can be bribed with Tina Turner reference titles ,while this episode isn\’t simply the best, I enjoyed it. It was such a weird concept for an episode and love that they took that risk. I think it\’s a charming episode and really funny.

Episodes that could have been better

Operation Dad: It did slightly bug me they decided to say oh yeah Ronnie Anne has a dad, that we never heard of until Season 4 of the Loud House. I think it would been interesting to explore if she didn\’t have one through death or something. At the same time this episode, itself, missed a beat by having her father decide to stay after all, because reasons. Then we don\’t see him for a bunch more episodes , make up your mind really. I think it would have been interesting growth for Ronnie Anne to accept her father is a busy doctor who cares about people, even though he loves and misses his family, he feels that this is needed. Or gave a better reason for him to stay than to say \”ugh I feel different now.\”

Not my favorite episodes (not necessarily bad)

This Bird Has Flown: Am I supposed to be sad that Sergio ran away, after he was being annoying for most of the episode? Plus it was kind of gross with the bird poop gag. It\’s a clunker of an episode.

Senor Class: I\’m not a fan of these plots where older character goes back to school and it\’s at their kid\’s school it doesn\’t work out well and they didn\’t do anything unique here.

I think this has been a fun series, and really enjoyable. If you do enjoy \”The Loud House\” you may enjoy this one, I do wonder if there are any fans of this series who aren\’t of the parent series, if you are one of them, please tell me in the comments. I do think this show is fun to see, and wonder what it\’s next two seasons will bring.

That\’s it for now. Tune in next time, when we wonder whatever happened to Ronnie Anne\’s old house.

2. Sarah - 1 star - As someone who has been watching "The Casagrandes" since it premiered, I was extremely disappointed with "The Casagrandes Cursed" episode. The plot was weak, and it felt like a recycled concept that we have seen in other cartoons before.
