The Amulet book series is a popular fantasy series written by Kazu Kibuishi. It follows the adventures of a group of children who stumble upon a magical amulet that grants them extraordinary powers. The story takes place in a mystical world filled with strange creatures and ancient artifacts. The main character of the series is Emily Hayes, a young girl who discovers the amulet after her mother is kidnapped by a mysterious creature. Along with her brother Navin and their friends, Emily embarks on a quest to rescue her mother and unravel the secrets of the amulet. As the story progresses, the children encounter a variety of challenges and must learn to harness the powers of the amulet to overcome them.
During this time, in March 2007, I married my best friend Amy Kim Ganter (now Amy Kim Kibuishi), a fellow graphic novel writer and artist. Our wedding was officiated by Understanding Comics author Scott McCloud.
While drawing and coloring a book can be a massive amount of work, most of my time and energy creating Amulet goes into the research and writing phase of production. The art style skillfully combines fantasy and science fiction elements, with tiny details tying each panel into the next with the grace of a weaving spider.
As the story progresses, the children encounter a variety of challenges and must learn to harness the powers of the amulet to overcome them. They encounter magical creatures, navigate treacherous landscapes, and confront powerful enemies. Along the way, they also uncover the history of the amulet and the world they find themselves in.
